Flavia jolted awake, drenched in a cold sweat. Her heart was hammering against her ribs.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

"Carey," she murmured, pressing a hand to her temple, her face ashen. "Who is Carey?" Why couldn't she remember anything? She slapped her own head, a desperate attempt to clear the fog, but her mind only felt like it was about to split open.

Back in the medical office, Tina called Caitlin.

The phone was answered almost immediately. "Hello?"

"Miss Kensington, this is Tina," she said, getting straight to the point. "I just asked our mistress. She said she doesn't know anyone named Carey." Now that she had delivered the message, her conscience felt a little clearer. The guilt of hiding Flavia's appearance from Caitlin had been weighing on her.

She doesn't know her.

Hearing those words, Caitlin couldn't deny the pang of disappointment, but she wasn't discouraged. "Okay, thank you, Tina."

"You're very welcome, Miss Kensington."

After ending the call, Caitlin placed a video call to her father, Stuart Gonzales. If Keira and Dowager Hannah Richards didn't know the Vance family, it only ruled out a long-standing family feud. It didn't rule out a personal one. What if it was a matter of love and betrayal?

Stuart was just leaving a meeting when he answered. "Freya."

"Dad, are you busy?"

"Not at all," he said. "We just got a tip from the Southside Shelter. They have someone whose information is a close match for your mother's. I'm heading over there to check it out."

Caitlin sat up straighter. "Really? Is there a photo?"

Stuart's voice cut through her thoughts. "Freya, who is this Quinton? Did he give you some trouble?"

"No," Caitlin said with a small smile. "I just ran into some people from the Vance family overseas, so I was asking around."

Stuart relaxed. "Alright then. Freya, I have to go. My flight to Southside is boarding soon."

"Okay, go ahead. Travel safely."

"Bye, Freya."

"Bye, Dad."

As the video call ended, Caitlin fell back into deep thought. It seemed she would have to find a way into Vance Castle. Or, at the very least, get access to their security footage. She had to see Flavia for herself.

With that resolve, she put her phone down, moved to her computer, and, switching to her secure alias, began searching for Vance Castle's surveillance system.
