THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 883

In Old Mrs. Somerset's eyes, her son was the most perfect man on earth, utterly without fault.

Jeremiah had been an outstanding child, never causing his mother a moment of worry.

At nineteen, he had been accepted into a domestic university. Not like Caitlin, who was already twenty and only now taking her college entrance exams.

So what if she got a guaranteed admission spot from her school? Who knew how much of that was genuine?

Old Mrs. Somerset knew all too well how education worked these days; a sizable donation to the school's building fund could get you an acceptance letter.

So, Caitlin's admission must have been secured that way. If she were truly that brilliant, she wouldn't have waited until she was twenty to get into college. Caitlin simply couldn't compare to Jeremiah.

After all, Jeremiah had earned his spot at a decent state school through his own hard work! It might not sound like much, but it wasn't an easy feat. Otherwise, why were there so many people in vocational schools?

Thus, Jeremiah was the source of Old Mrs. Somerset's immense pride. Her son was so capable, he was destined to become a powerful business magnate.

Flossie glanced at her mother. "Mom, you're giving my brother way too much credit! Don't forget, besides being the only girl in the Gonzales and Richards families, she's also a benefactor to the Palmer family of Valerium."

Celia's high-profile appearance at the Gonzales banquet, where she had publicly gifted Caitlin a jade tablet, was common knowledge.

Flossie continued, "Mom, the Palmers are nobility in Valerium. With that jade tablet, Miss Gonzales's status is equivalent to that of a noble. I'm genuinely worried that Miss Gonzales and her family will look down on my brother!"

After all, besides the shared experience of being divorced, Jeremiah seemed to fall short of Caitlin in every other aspect.

Her words only annoyed Old Mrs. Somerset further. She looked at Flossie. "She only became a benefactor to the Palmers because the Richards family in Neon Spire is close with them! It has nothing to do with her personally. Women are different from men. A divorced man can still marry up. A divorced woman is lucky if she can get married at all!"

"She should be thanking her lucky stars that your brother is even willing to consider her. The real question is whether your brother will find her acceptable."

That was right. Old Mrs. Somerset was worried her son wouldn't like Caitlin, not the other way around.

Flossie was speechless.

Old Mrs. Somerset pressed on. "Flossie, believe you me, if I personally go to the Gonzales family with this proposal, not only will Freya be counting her blessings, but the entire Gonzales family will be eternally grateful to me."

"What kind of man can a second-hand woman like Freya hope to marry? She's lucky to find anyone. Your brother is going to be the next Master Ninth!"

Old Mrs. Somerset scoffed. "Actions speak louder than words. I can't be bothered to argue with you."

With that, she took out her phone and snapped a picture. "I'll show this to your brother when I get home. If he thinks she's acceptable, I'll go to the Gonzales family to propose the match."

She could already picture how delighted the Gonzales and Richards grandmothers would be. If nothing else, given the life-and-death bond between Old Mr. Gonzales and Old Mr. Somerset, the Gonzales family wouldn't dare refuse.

Flossie said nothing more.

The banquet continued. Stuart, Carey, and Caitlin made their rounds, toasting the guests. Soon, they arrived at Old Mrs. Somerset's table.

Stuart smiled as he introduced Carey. "Carey, this is Mrs. Somerset. Mr. Somerset and my father were old comrades-in-arms! And this is Miss Somerset."

He then looked at Caitlin. "Freya, you should call her Grandma Somerset and Aunt Somerset."

Caitlin greeted them politely.

Old Mrs. Somerset raised her glass, looking at Carey. "Carey, congratulations on your return. I wish you and your family all the happiness in the world!"
