THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 911

Skyler ran a hand through his hair. "Hey, easy now. It's not like I've met the right person yet!"

"What do you mean, 'easy now'? You're only three years younger than your uncle," Alaina Sylvester retorted, smacking Skyler on the back of the head. "I'm giving you one more year. If you don't bring a girlfriend home by this time next year, you can get out!"

Skyler was speechless. After all that, how did the conversation end up being about him again?

Mercury had to be in retrograde.

Just then, the sound of footsteps echoed from the entrance hall. Gordon Sylvester was home.

Beatrice immediately rushed over to greet him. "Well, well, well, look who it is! If it isn't the hero of the hour, home at last!"

Before he could react, Alaina and Skyler burst out clapping in perfectly timed rhythm. “Welcome home! Welcome home to our champion!” they cheered.

Gordon shrugged off his suit jacket, handing it to a nearby servant before turning to Beatrice and Alaina. "Mom, Alaina, what's going on? What's this about a champion?"

Alaina beamed. "You managed to win over Caitlin! That makes you the family's greatest champion, of course!"

Beatrice sidled up to him. "So, when are you and Caitlin getting married?"

Skyler leaned in, his face a mask of unabashed curiosity.

"Married?" Gordon hadn't expected them to jump the gun quite so spectacularly. "There's no rush."

After all, his girlfriend wasn't exactly the marrying kind. He still had a lot of work to do.

Beatrice's expression changed in an instant. She grabbed a small stool, stepped onto it, and delivered a resounding slap across Gordon's face. "What do you mean, 'no rush'? You player! Are you saying you don't plan on making an honest woman out of her?"

As for why she needed the stool—well, Beatrice was a bit on the shorter side.

Beatrice carefully stepped down from the stool, leaning on Gordon for support. "Caitlin doesn't believe in marriage?"

"That's right," Gordon confirmed with a slight nod.

Beatrice's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "You know, there aren't many clear-headed young women like Caitlin around these days."

Gordon stared at her, dumbfounded.

Seriously? Whose side was she on?

When he was against marriage, his mother called him a scumbag. When Caitlin was against marriage, his mother called her clear-headed.

He was starting to wonder if the hospital had sent the wrong baby home all those years ago.
