THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 981

Gertrude froze, her eyes widening in surprise.

It was the first time anyone had ever stood up for her.

The first time anyone had her back.

And it was a beautiful girl, no less. Her clothes were perfectly pressed, her bearing impeccable. There wasn't a single flaw to be found on her. In Gertrude's world, girls like this were completely out of her league; she wasn't worthy of their friendship.

Gertrude had been born, she was told, destined to pave the way for her brother.

This girl, Caitlin, stood worlds apart.

Yet here she was, hearing Caitlin call her "friend."

For a girl who had never known love, the words stung her nose and made it hard to breathe.

"I don't care if you're her friend or not! How dare you call me a dog!" Charis seethed. "You're going to apologize to me! Right now!"

"Apologize?" Caitlin raised an eyebrow. "This is a Kingsward University dorm, not your personal mansion. Don't pull that princess act on me. Your family might spoil you, but I certainly won't."

Charis looked like she was about to explode. She glared at Caitlin, fire in her eyes. "Fine, fine. You really want to make an enemy of me?"

"Yes," Caitlin replied with a slight nod.

Yes? She actually dared to say yes?

Charis was momentarily speechless, taken aback by the directness. She stared at Caitlin. "You'll regret this, Caitlin. This isn't over!"

"Okay," Caitlin said, her expression indifferent, as if the threat meant nothing to her.

At that moment, Gertrude stepped forward, positioning herself in front of Charis. Her attitude was completely sincere. "Miss Gonzales, this was my fault from the very beginning. It has nothing to do with Caitlin. I'll apologize to you. I'm sorry, it's all my fault. Please don't lower yourself to arguing with someone from a small town like me."
