Without a word, she gathered up her skirt and ran straight back toward the banquet hall. She could not, under any circumstances, allow anything to happen to Nolan.

Watching her dash off, Cramer frowned and immediately turned to his bodyguard. “We can’t let the Sue family’s daughter from overseas come to harm. Take people in there right now and find out what’s going on.”

“Yes, sir.”

His men moved without hesitation.

By the time Eliza reached the banquet hall, it was pitch–black. The guests, afraid for their safety, had already fled, leaving the place cerily empty.

She could make out maintenance workers fumbling with the main power switch, and a few people with flashlights sweeping the space – but there was no sign of Nolan or the Hayes family’s bodyguards.

Strange… where had they gone?

Recalling the direction Nolan had taken and where she’d last seen Wendy disappearing on the second floor, Eliza quickly pieced it together Wendy must have lured him to the rear courtyard to finish him off.

Every five–star hotel had one, and tonight Cramer had reserved the entire International Grand Hotel. The rear courtyard would be completely deserted, the perfect place for an ambush.

She immediately ran for the back.

Nolan’s brows furrowed at her words. He had no patience for empty talk, and at his glance, his men moved. But this was foreign ground, and Wendy’s people were all armed.

“You can’t really think you can drag me away here, Mr. Hayes. Don’t be ridiculous.” Wendy smiled faintly. “That invitation was from me. Now, guess who I have surrounded… and what’s happening to your precious Eliza right now?”

It was clear she had baited him into her trap. A sharp worry stabbed through him. He’d told Eliza to stay put, but once chaos broke out, all the unimportant guests would have fled. If she was still in the hall, she would be vulnerable.

“I know you’re here to take me away. To keep you from ruining my plans, I have no choice but to eliminate you.”

She lifted her hand, and her men opened fire.

Nolan’s mind was already on Eliza. His eyes hardened. “Take them out. Leave no one alive.”

The Hayes family bodyguards were all highly trained. Expecting trouble tonight, Nolan had armed them before coming.
