I’ll take that as a compliment,Estella replied with a smile.

Jonathan texted back: It’s not a compliment. It’s the truth.”

They chatted for another ten minutes or so, and slowly, Estella’s stress began to ease.

After switching her phone to airplane mode, she looked upand noticed Donna staring at her with curious, sparkling eyes and a mischievous grin.

Who were you chatting with for so long, huh? You looked so happy. Don’t tell me you’ve got a boyfriend?Donna teased.

Estella chuckled helplessly. He’s not my boyfriend. Justa friend.

Donna was clearly not buying it. She hopped onto Estella’s bed and flopped down beside her.

A friend? Doesn’t sound that simple. Spill it! I want all the juicy details!

Though Donna had never dated and wasn’t interested in romance for herself, she absolutely loved hearing about other people’s relationships.

Come on, tell mewhat’s he like? How far along are you guys? Want me to give you some tips?

Estella gave up trying to dodge and answered, He’s a lawyer. A little serious. Nothing’s really happened between us yet.”

Donna raised an eyebrow. With how gorgeous you are, and he’s still taking his sweet time? What’s he waiting forsomeone else to swoop in?

Estella laughed. I don’t know. But I think things are fine the way they are right now.”

Donna was baffled. Fine? You two into mind games or just afraid of commitment?

Estella:

Donna laughed. Kidding, kidding. Is he hot? Got any pics?

Before Estella could answer, the locked door suddenly rattled and burst open.

Elenor stumbled in.

The room was instantly filled with the heavy stench of alcohol.

Clearly drunk, she didn’t seem to care about the smell clinging to her. Without even changing. she staggered to her bed and collapsed facedown.

Donna scrunched her nose and made a disgusted face.

But she quickly turned her attention back to Estella, still fired up with curiosity.

So?she whispered. Is he hot or what?

Estella opened her mouth to respond-

But Elenor, halfasleep and completely irritated, suddenly shouted, Can you two shut up already?! It’s the middle of the night! Every damn night it’s the samesome people actually want to sleep! Ever heard of respecting your roommates?!

The outburst startled Donna, but she recovered fastand her temper flared.

Excuse me? You’re the one who comes in at midnight making a racket. That door slam could’ve woken the dead. And that smell! You reek of booze and didn’t even bother to shower. And you want to talk about respect?

Elenor, clearly buzzed and fuming, shot up from her bed and stumbled toward Donna, cursing under her breath, fists clenched like she was ready to throw punches.

Donna wasn’t the type to back down.

She sprang up and rushed forwardand in a blink, the two of them were locked in a fullon brawl.

Estella couldn’t break them apart alone. In a panic, she bolted out the door to get help.

By the time others intervened and separated the two, the damage was done.

Donna’s face bore deep, red scratch marks, her clothes torn

Elenor’s hair was a tangled mess, her lip bloodied, and her arms marked with bruises.

Elenor glared at Donna with wild fury, eyes like daggers.

Donna, she snarled, this isn’t over. You’re going down next round. I’ll make sure you get eliminated

Donna shouted back, furious, What, just because you’ve got connections? Sleeping with Mr. Lewis, thinking no one knows?

Everyone had heard rumors of Elenor clinging to Director Lewisbut no one dared call her out. Until now.
