Vivica rushed as fast as she could and, after several urgent calls from the police, finally made it home.

Evelyn had climbed to the roof of the apartment building early that morning and was now sitting on the edge of the parapet. The police were on the scene, and a tense standoff had been going on for some time.

“Evelyn, your daughter is here! Don’t do anything rash! Come down and talk to her properly!” a police officer urged, pulling Vivica forward and shouting towards the woman on the ledge.

Vivica stared, her heart pounding in her chest.

“Mom, get down from there! It’s too dangerous! If you fall, you’ll die!”

Vivica knew what her mother’s goal was, but this was too great a risk. An accidental slip would mean certain death.

The police hadn’t understood the full situation. They’d assumed Evelyn was simply distraught and wanted to see her daughter one last time. They thought bringing Vivica here would calm her down and resolve the situation. They never imagined this was the real reason.
