The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 81

“Smack!”

Before he could finish his nonsense, Vivica rushed forward and slapped him hard across the face.

The bodyguards waiting outside heard the slap and stormed in with trained precision.

Fletcher, stunned by the blow, became even more furious. Just as he was about to retaliate, the bodyguards seized him, one on each side.

“Are you a mad dog, Fletcher? Biting anyone you see? I only recently met Mr. Baird; it’s not the kind of relationship you’re imagining! Chaim was conceived through a sperm bank! It was you who couldn't perform, you who begged me to do it! And now you have the gall to turn around and bite me for it?”

Vivica could endure being wronged herself, but she wouldn’t allow Joseph to be slandered. Here was the esteemed Joseph Baird, a man of power, wealth, and status, being branded an “adulterer” simply for helping her out of kindness.

But Fletcher refused to believe it. Held by the bodyguards, he continued to shout, “If you two aren’t sleeping together, why would he help you like this? You’re just a housewife, how did you even meet a man of his stature? He made an exception to take your case and didn’t even charge you a cent for it!”

“Exactly,” Vivica shot back. “Like you said, I’m just a housewife. What makes you think I could land a man like him? He could have any debutante or heiress he wants.”

Her question made Fletcher pause, his face frozen.

“But… but Chaim looks so much like him! He’s clearly his biological son…”

Fletcher was lost, his eyes darting back and forth between the boy and Joseph. Ultimately, he chose to trust his own judgment. “There’s definitely something going on between you two! Vivica, I really underestimated you. I can’t believe you orchestrated this whole thing, not only cheating on me but also trying to leave me with nothing!”

Vivica, finding it impossible to argue with him, gave up. “Believe whatever you want. I think your inability to be a man has twisted your mind.”

Joseph didn’t deign to explain himself either. He gave the bodyguards a slight glance, and they understood immediately, turning to escort Fletcher out.

“I’m telling you, Vivica, I won’t give up! You want me to walk away with nothing? No way! I’ll make sure everyone knows about your scandal!” Fletcher yelled, his foul mouth still running as he was forcibly removed.

Vivica was mortified. She turned to Joseph, her expression troubled. “Mr. Baird, I’m so sorry. You were kind enough to help me, and now you’ve been dragged into this mess.”

Joseph offered a faint smile, clearly unbothered. “It’s nothing, don’t pay him any mind. The court has already served the papers. The hearing is in a month. Barring any surprises, your marriage will be over then.”

Vivica was taken aback. “So soon?”

“Yes,” Joseph nodded. “What, are you having second thoughts?”

“Of course not,” Vivica said, shaking her head. “It’s just that I looked it up before, and it said filing for divorce takes at least three months, often more than half a year.”

“That’s for other people,” Joseph stated simply.

Those few words radiated the effortless control of him. Vivica looked at him, filled with admiration.
