Chapter 248 – Selene?

–LIA’S POV–

The ground shifted beneath my feet.

I stared at Warner, waiting for him to laugh.

If it were Ajax, he would have by now.

But Warner stared back at me, his gaze concerned.

I released a slow breath, glancing at Zane.

For the first time, he too looked like he had no idea what to do. Like the world had just collapsed around him.

“It’s… it’s not possible,” I said softly. “The moon’s in the sky, Warner. Whoever this is, it’s an imposter.”

“I—I don’t think so, Lia,” he said. “I mean, I reacted the same way. I actually tried to attack her. But I couldn’t.”

“What do you mean you couldn’t?” Zane asked.

“I mean I physically couldn’t. I stepped towards her with a growl, accusing her of lying, and then as soon as I got close enough, all the anger melted away and I felt like I was trying to attack my mom.”

I blinked, my heart thudding in my chest.

How was that possible?

How could it be her?

Zane placed an arm around me, probably sensing the storm of emotions I felt at once.

“You okay?” he whispered, bending a little so he could look me in the eye.

I stared at him dumbfounded.

“Love?” he whispered, his free hand taking my face. “You can refuse to see her. It’s okay.”

“No,” I said at once, my eyebrows drawing together. I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath. “I can’t refuse. What if she never comes back? What if I never get this chance again?”

“Okay,” Zane nodded, “Warner, go tell her Lia’s coming. She needs a moment to register this.”

For the first time ever, Warner hesitated. “You want me to tell the Moon Goddess to wait?”

“Yes,” Zane stated. “If she wants to meet the daughter she abandoned years ago, she has to wait.”

Warner pursed his lips, then nodded and left.

Christy, Sheila, Aaron and Ajax approached us, frowns on their faces.

“Guys, I’m getting some serious deja vu right now. Why did you stop dancing?” Christy grumbled.

“Is everything okay?” Sheila asked.

Zane glanced at me, and then at them. “Lia’s mom is here.”

“Oh,” Christy’s eyes widened. “Everyone here is totally showing their powers. What now? Do we need to distract her?”

I gulped.

“Not her Mom, Christy. I mean, her birth mother.”

Christy stared at him, then scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Nice try, Zane.” She rolled her eyes.

“It’s true,” I whispered. “At least that’s what the woman outside is saying.”

Now they all froze, eyes so wide I was afraid they’d fall off their faces.

“Yeah,” I muttered. “Same.”

“The Moon Goddess, is here, under our roof right now?” Aaron said incredulously. “The moon is literally shining in the sky right now. How is this possible?”

“I asked the same thing,” I muttered.

“Where’s Warner?” Ajax asked. “Is he with her?”

Zane nodded.

Ajax left to go find him at once.

“What… what are you gonna do?” Aaron asked, watching me. “Do you even want to see her?”

I nodded. “I do. She gave birth to me.”

“But she left you,” Sheila whispered. “You’re not mad? Humans take that very personally I’ve noticed.”

“She didn’t have a choice,” I said quietly. “She did what was best for me. For my safety and my future. So I could have a normal childhood.”

“Well then,” Sheila smiled, gently taking my arm and giving it a squeeze, “if you’re at peace with it, then go meet her. You wouldn’t want to keep the Moon Goddess waiting, would you?”

A small smile crawled onto my lips too, and I glanced at Zane. “Will you go with me?”

“It’s okay if you don’t want to,” I said quickly. “I know it might feel weird for you guys.”

“It’s fine,” he replied. “Warner met her already. And your other mom really likes me, so let’s hope this one will too. After all, she made me just for you.”

I bit my lip, unsure if I should smile at that.
