Chapter 3
Tessae was feeding Lily seafood porridge.
Spoonful after spoonful.
I felt the blood drain from my face.
Lily had been allergic to seafood since she was a baby. Just one bite could cause her throat to swell shut–suffocation was a real possibility.
Her stomach had already been damaged by the industrial–grade chili, and now all that seafood was just making things worse.
Tessa was trying to kill my daughter!
The heat in the room made my voice crack, but I still screamed in desperation.
“Nathan, Lily can’t eat seafood! If she eats all that, she’ll die! Get that seafood porridge away from
her!”
“She can’t eat it!”
He looked at me, confused by my outburst. But when he turned to look at Lily, happily eating the porridge, he thought I was just making a scene.
“Vivian, stop making trouble. Look at Lily–she’s enjoying the seafood porridge Tessa made for
her.”
“You think just because you have a problem with Tessa, that she’s trying to harm Lily?”
I shook my head helplessly. Lily loved seafood, but she’d never eaten anything like this before.
I had always kept her away from it, especially after the time she almost died when she ate just a small piece of seafood when she was one.
And now Tessa had the nerve to act all innocent, wiping fake tears away.
“Vivian, why are you misunderstanding me? The seafood porridge I made for Lily was all homemade, not store–bought.”
Nathan glared at me, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “Tessa’s pregnant and taking care of Lily, and you still misunderstand her? Vivian, you really need to reconsider your actions.”

He was about to hang up the phone when I suddenly noticed the thermometer above me–it had
reached 230°F.
The walls seemed to shift, and I immediately realized the sauna couldn’t take much more of this
temperature.
It was about to explode!
If it did, I wouldn’t survive. And I wouldn’t ever see Lily again. And she had just eaten so much
seafood…
Time was running out, and I was moments from death.
I swallowed my pride for the sake of my daughter, dropping to my knees.
“Nathan, everything’s my fault. I’m sorry for causing trouble, for making things difficult for you
and Tessa.”
“But please, let me out. Lily’s sick–if I’m gone, what happens to her? Just let me out. I’ll do
anything–please!”
I was so dehydrated I couldn’t even cry anymore. Only two blood tears ran down my face.
In the reflection on the glass, I looked like a monster.
Nathan smirked.
“Vivian, you should’ve done this earlier.”
Tessa, holding her mouth, watched me with a mocking glint in her eyes.
“I’m sorry, but if you want Nathan to let you go, you’re going to have to apologize properly. Get on your knees and beg. Maybe I’ll let you off the hook.”
The temperature was already scalding my feet. My skin had burned in places, and I could feel the pain radiating up my legs.
If my face touches that, it’ll be permanently disfigured.
But for Lily, I couldn’t care. I lowered myself, humiliatingly kneeling, banging my head against the floor with each painful hit.
After banging my head on the floor ten times, I was nearly too weak to move.

“Is this good enough?”
Nathan looked down at me with disdain. “Get up…”
Before he could finish, I heard a shout from the other side of the phone.
“The girl in bed 38 is going into shock–severe allergic reaction! Get the critical condition notice,
fast!”
