Chapter 4

I nearly collapsed the moment I heard those words. My legs buckled, and I had to cling to the glass wall just to stay upright.

My voice cracked with panic and helplessness.

“What happened to Lily? What happened to my baby?!”

Nathan’s face turned cold.

“Stop yelling! You’re making things worse when the kid’s fine!”

“Nathan, let me out! The temperature in here is almost 248°F–this place is going to explode!”

“You and your guys are all gonna die in here with me, let me out now!”

I pounded on the walls desperately, hoping to awaken Nathan’s conscience.

But Nathan just furrowed his brows, confused, looking at my flushed, feverish face, unsure of

what was happening.

Before I could say anything more, Tessa stepped in, holding his arm.

“Don’t worry, Nathan. I’ve got the temperature on my phone. It’s fine, I promise, no one’s gonna

die.”

“You’re just blowing off some steam. There’s no way I’d really hurt her. I’m too much of a coward

for that.”

“You don’t have to worry, everything is under control.”

Nathan glanced at Tessa’s phone, then shot me an angry look, his eyes burning with fury.

“Vivian, stop pretending. You can see right here on the live monitor that Tessa’s been adjusting your temperature as it rises. If it gets too high, she’ll turn it down.”

“I honestly don’t know where you’ve been getting your information all these years, but your acting skills are impressive–almost had me fooled with that lie.”

I was dizzy, on the verge of passing out, only able to catch fragments of Nathan’s insults.

I silently screamed out towards the door, “Help… please, help me…”

Nathan, clearly tired of my act, hung up the phone without hesitation.

Outside, his lackeys finally realized what was happening and how close I was to death from dehydration.

But they just sat there, watching coldly.

“Vivian, what makes you think you can steal Nathan from Tessa? You’re nothing compared to her. Not even her pinky toe is worth your life.”

“I’ve already told you, even if Nathan lets you go, we’re still gonna watch you until you’re dead. So stop with the pointless struggles, no one’s gonna save you.”

I had no strength left to fight. All I could do was curse them weakly.

“You bunch of assholes…”

It was clear to me now. Tessa had given them orders to watch me die.

She had planned to kill Lily too.

Mother and daughter, gone, to make room for her and her precious son.

Tessa was a truly vicious woman.

The lackey outside, hearing my curses, sneered and then coldly turned the temperature dial to

250°F.

“You still have the energy to curse me, huh? Don’t forget, you’re not Nathan’s wife anymore-

you’re just a prisoner now.‘

“Your daughter won’t last much longer either. Soon, you two will be reunited underground.”

My body was burned from head to toe, the pain almost unbearable. I kept pounding on the glass door, desperate.

“Let me out… please, just let me out…”

My vision blurred, and my consciousness began to fade.

I could feel my life slipping away, and in a haze, I saw Lily standing in front of me.

I cried out in despair, “I’m sorry… I can’t come to you…”

The lackeys were immediately subdued by armed forces, and my father rushed in with his men.
