Chapter 6

When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a hospital bed, alone, the sharp scent of disinfectant

stinging my nose.

The moment I remembered Lily was still in critical condition, I yanked out my IV without hesitation and rushed straight to the nurses‘ station.

“Where’s my daughter?” I demanded, ignoring the pain shooting through my body.

Burnt and bandaged, I dragged myself to her room as fast as I could.

The moment I saw her face, my heart almost burst from relief–she was still alive.

But the joy lasted only a second.

Lily was hooked up to a ventilator. Her breathing was shallow and slow, the rise and fall of her

chest barely noticeable.

She was hanging on by a thread.

My fists clenched. My entire body trembled with rage.

Nathan.

Tessae.

I would make sure they died painfully.

Just then, I heard a familiar voice behind me. Fake–sweet and laced with malice.

“Well, well… I was wondering who it was. Turns out it’s you,

Vivian.”

I turned around slowly.

Tessae and Nathan stood in the doorway.

When I saw Tessa, I could barely hold myself back from charging at her and tearing her apart. She was the one who made Lily eat seafood porridge, and because of her, Lily was now on a ventilator.

Tessa caught the fury in my eyes and pretended to be scared, dramatically collapsing into

Nathan’s arms.

“Nathan, Vivian’s look is so terrifying, I’m scared!”

Nathan shot me a glare, then lovingly reassured Tessa.

“Vivian, enough! Why are you attacking Tessa? She’s been taking care of Lily day and night. Do you think Tessa wants to take care of your useless daughter? Who even cares?”

I looked at Nathan’s disgusting face and could barely contain my disgust.

“Is that even a human thing to say? Lily’s struggling to breathe, and you call that ‘taking care of her‘?”

As I spoke, I showed him the burns on my body, the scars from the explosion. Tears welled up in

my eyes.

“I was in that sauna for three hours, my skin melted off, I looked like a monster. The sauna

couldn’t take the heat, and I was blown out by the explosion. The fact that I’m alive to see Lily is a

miracle.”

“Nathan, the one I hate the most right now is you!”

Nathan, for the first time, saw my battered state and looked confused. He glanced down at Tessa

in his arms.

Tessa shook her head, feigning ignorance. “What’s she saying? I don’t know…”

Before she could finish, I lunged at her and slapped her hard.

This woman was the reason my marriage fell apart, why Lily was on her deathbed, and she almost killed me too. All of this misery was because of her.

She deserved to rot.

Tessa was stunned, and Nathan quickly reacted, kicking me into the corner.

“Vivian, are you out of your mind? How dare you lay a hand on Tessa? You think you’re alive just because you’re lucky? That’s all Tessa’s mercy on you.”

He snorted in disgust. “Since the sauna didn’t teach you any lessons, someone, throw her in a volcano. This time, let’s see if you finally learn respect.”

Just as Nathan finished speaking, he felt something cold press against his head. A male voice rang
