The Marriage That Never Existed novel Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Adrian truly loved her. That was why he had gone so far as to see me in pain.

I had long accepted this reality, yet my chest still ached.

“Evelyn, this is what you get for being the other woman.”

Lila stood over me, looking down with disdain.

I lifted my head to meet her gaze, my voice hoarse.

“I am Adrian’s lawful wife. You are the one who came between us.”

A flicker of anger crossed her face before she smiled again.

“You really don’t know, do you? Your marriage certificate with Adrian was fake.”

“He divorced you long ago. I’m the one legally married to him now.”

“Adrian told me himself. To him, you were nothing more than a body for release.”I stared at her in disbelief, my mind blank.

A fake marriage certificate.

A body for release.

“You actually thought he loved you?” Lila sneered. “He only kept you around because he didn’t want to hurt me. You were just there to satisfy his urges.”

“Evelyn, you really are pathetic.”

A laugh escaped my throat, followed by hot tears rolling down my face.

I had never imagined the truth could be uglier than I feared.

All those nights I mistook his hunger for love—it had always been love meant for someone else.

My laughter grew louder and louder until it hurt to breathe.

Lila frowned and stepped back.

“Are you insane?”

I met her eyes, my vision burning red.

“If I’m only a body to him, what are you so afraid of?”

Lila’s eyes flickered in shock before fury replaced it.

She jabbed her sharp nails into my wound.

“You think I’m afraid of you? Let me tell you something, Adrian would never want someone like you.”

“And I’ll never give you another chance.”

With that, she ordered them to take me away.

Not long after, a dozen or so interns were led in.

My clothes were stripped away, leaving me completely exposed.

Then I was forced into a position that erased the last trace of my dignity. The sound of swallowing filled the room as a wave of shame washed over me.At that moment, heavy breathing echoed from the next room.

“Honey, why don’t you see if everything’s healed properly?”The suggestive sounds kept drifting into my ears, and Adrian’s strained breathing made my heart ache.

The very next second, cold instruments were inserted into my body.

I gasped as my body trembled beyond control. Tears slipped down the corners of my eyes.

“Honey, you’re amazing. Tell me, do I please you more, or does she?”

Adrian’s deep voice came through clearly.“Definitely you. She’s nothing more than an inflatable toy to me.”

My heart broke beyond repair. The sounds from next door grew louder, the heat in the room rising with every passing moment.

Someone couldn’t resist loosening their collar.

“Let’s see how well that dilator works.”I don’t know how long had passed; my tears had long since dried.I lay there on the operating table like a rag doll, blood seeping beneath me.After soothing Lila to sleep, Adrian stepped outside for a cigarette and made a call. “Has the Mrs. Holt been taken home?”

The assistant hesitated for two seconds before replying,

“Sir... wasn’t Mrs. Holt taken to the hospital?”Adrian’s brow furrowed. Just then, he overheard a few interns talking nearby. “That woman... she felt incredible.”“I heard she used to be a doctor who did intimate procedures.”A jolt went through Adrian. He turned sharply and strode back, tearing the curtain open. What he saw made his blood run cold.
