The Marriage That Never Existed novel Chapter 3

Chapter 3

I clutched my bleeding arm, thinking Adrian had found out about the surgery.

“It was her request—”

Before I could finish, Adrian grabbed me violently and dragged me out.

He drove at full speed, taking me straight to the hospital.

Lila was sitting on a hospital bed. The moment she saw me, her face twisted with tears and accusation.

“Why did you do this to me? I trusted you, and you tried to hurt me on purpose.”

“You took my husband, and now you want him to divorce me and never touch me again, is that it?”

I didn’t understand what was happening. My throat was dry.

“The surgery went smoothly. I didn’t hurt you…”

“You’re lying! I was bleeding so much! The doctor said you botched the surgery—you messed me up inside!”

Her tears streamed down faster.

“You did it on purpose—you wanted revenge so you could take my husband from me!”

I looked up sharply at her, then at Adrian.

“I didn’t. There was no mistake in the operation, and I never wanted to hurt you. I’m a doctor—I would never do such a thing.”

But neither of them believed me.

Lila cried harder, begging Adrian to avenge her.

“Adrian, if you still want to protect her after what she did, I’ll be gone for good.”

“Just tell me—do you choose her, or me?”

Lila stared at him, waiting for his answer.

I looked at him too, a faint spark of hope rising in my chest.

I wanted him to believe me—at least that much. After all, I was his wife.

But a second later, Adrian pulled Lila into his arms. His gaze met mine, cold and dark.

“I warned you, but you never listen.”

“Now that you’re in the wrong, you must face the consequences.”

Then I heard him make a phone call.

“Dr. Shaw is suspected of medical malpractice. Detain her for a few days.”

My eyes flew open in disbelief. He was using his connections to have me locked up.

“Adrian, you can’t do this to me! Please, don’t let them take me!”

But no matter how I struggled, they dragged me away.

The next few days became a living nightmare.

Everyone inside had been told what to do. Every day, I was tortured beyond endurance. My broken fingers were crushed again and again, my shattered wrist twisted cruelly.

Within three days, I was covered in bruises and open wounds, barely recognizable as a person.

When they finally released me, I hadn’t even caught my breath before I was brought face-to-face with Lila.

She looked me over slowly, a faint smile curling at her lips. “Seeing you like this just proves he loves me more.”

A sharp pain shot through my chest.
