"And to tell you the truth ..." Primrose gently took his hands and placed them over her chest. "Despite all the bad thoughts I had about you, I’ve come to realize there’s one thing I can’t change."
Edmund didn’t say anything in response, but somehow, he still spoke through his mind, even though he knew she could read his mind.
[I guess ... she still sees me as a monster.]
Did everything Primrose said earlier about not seeing him as a monster just go in one ear and out the other?
If this was the filtered version of his thoughts, then just how bad were the real, unfiltered ones?
"Edmund," Primrose took a deep breath and spoke in a gentle voice. "I realize that I’ve always been drawn to you. I didn’t understand what I was feeling back then, but now I think ... it was something called love."
She had always harbored feelings for him, even when he was cold, even when he barely looked at her for an entire year.
But sadly, that love was always buried under layers of anger and hatred.
Primrose once thought that she only fell in love with Edmund in this lifetime, when his communication had improved and he was finally able to express his affection.
But deep down, she knew that she had loved even the version of him who made her cry a lot.
She once thought she was a fool for loving a Lycan King who treated her like she didn’t matter, who always spoke to her like she was a burden.
But honestly, love isn’t something you can control.
Love wasn’t something physical, nor something that could be explained scientifically.
It just happened, all of a sudden, and Primrose couldn’t stop it, even if she tried.
"I love you. I always have," she whispered, gently stroking his hand. "Whether it was in the past, now, or in the future. Edmund, I truly love you, and I’m really, really happy I get to be your wife."
Their first life had been a mess. There was so much pain, so many things left unsaid.
But even so, she was glad it happened because without it, she wouldn’t be here now, getting a second chance.
After surviving such a terrifying storm, she could finally see the rainbow that looked so beautiful and so warm, it made her want to forget what cold even felt like.
"I ..." Edmund opened his mouth, but not a single word came out.
He truly didn’t know what to say in response to his wife’s words.
He still held onto so much guilt and self-directed anger, but Primrose’s gentle voice and soft touch helped ease it, little by little.
"I love you too," Edmund finally found the strength to speak again. "More than anything."
He paused for a moment, then continued, "Even back then, when I was so cold to you ... and ... and—"
Primrose stopped him with a soft kiss on his lips. "I know," she nodded gently. "Now I know you’ve always loved me. That’s why, I’m not mad at you anymore," she said with a small smile.
