Primrose didn’t really feel any change after she tied the talisman to her keychain, along with the dragon scale Leofric once gave her.
Still, it gave her a small sense of comfort, better than having no protection at all.
Since Salem didn’t have much information to share about her ability, he left Primrose’s chamber after making sure she was truly fine.
Not long after, Lazarus entered her room and said he wanted to stay with her through the night.
The old Primrose might’ve happily agreed, but the current her immediately refused her father’s overprotectiveness.
"I’m fine, Father," Primrose said softly. "You should rest too. Your leg was still limping earlier. Let’s rest in our own rooms and meet again tomorrow morning."
Lazarus frowned, clearly displeased.
"Rosie, why are you being so cruel to your father? Do you really prefer to spend the night with your husband instead of me?"
"Yes." Her quick and firm answer made him freeze in shock. "Father, I love you, but now I can only sleep if my husband cuddles me, and it would be weird if you were here."
Lazarus clutched his chest dramatically, as if his heart had just been stabbed.
[Weird? My daughter thinks it’s weird to sleep in the same room as me?!] he shouted in his mind. [How many things does that wolf plan to steal from me?!]
He kept complaining inwardly but tried his best to keep a calm face. "If that’s how it is... then I’ll go now," he said with a wounded expression.
He stood up slowly. "Good night, Rosie."
He was about to walk away but stopped when Primrose suddenly grabbed his hand. [Has my daughter changed her mind? Does she want me to stay and kick out that wolf instead?!]
Primrose took a deep breath. For a moment, she considered letting him stay, but she really wanted to talk about what happened earlier only with her husband.
"Father, tomorrow I want to visit the auction house. Could you give me the catalogue?" she asked. "I know you already have it."
Most people who attended auctions had no idea what items would appear that day, except for the few famous ones that had been rumored beforehand.
But people like Lazarus usually got their hands on a full catalogue that listed everything that would be auctioned off.
Primrose rarely bought anything at those events, but since she’d been away for more than three years—including her first life—she’d started to forget what kind of things were usually displayed there.
Lazarus, on the other hand, hissed softly. His daughter was asking something from him, yet still refused to let him stay.
"Alright," he said after taking a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "I’ll give you the catalogue tomorrow morning. But if you’re still sick tomorrow, you’re not allowed to go to the auction house."
Knowing her father was already grumpy, Primrose didn’t want to make it worse. "I understand, Father. Good night."
As soon as Lazarus left her chamber, Primrose immediately asked Edmund to sit beside her. She didn’t say anything at first, just rested her head against his arm. But after thinking for a while, she finally spoke.
"The God of Fortune didn’t just sound unfriendly," she said softly.
Edmund turned his head toward her but stayed silent, letting his wife continue.
"He’s actually mad at me," Primrose admitted.
Edmund frowned. "Mad? Why would a god be mad at you?"
[Is it because she married a beast?!] Edmund’s mind began to fill with all sorts of terrible possibilities even before Primrose explained anything.
Primrose tugged on his collar gently and kissed him to calm his thoughts. "It’s not because of you," she said. "Well... yes, he did sound like he disliked you, but I think he doesn’t like me either."
"I’ve never done anything that could anger the gods," she muttered, unconsciously wrapping her arms around her stomach as she remembered how the God of Fortune had threatened to burn her baby.
Why would he say something like that in the first place?
"Do you think it’s because I rarely went to the temple when I was young?" Primrose asked worriedly. "Edmund, I... I feel a little scared—no, maybe not a little."
She was genuinely frightened, especially since Leofric had once said that her ability might make the heavens think she was part of a divine being.
