Sloane took the folder and flipped through it–until she suddenly froze. On one of the pages was a photograph of Jessica standing beside several senior executives from Glen.
“So Charlie was just the pawn they put out in the open,” Lucas said, his voice cold as ice.
Kaizen gently tucked the blanket around his father, his movements soft but his tone sharp enough to chill the air. “I’ve already contacted Nathan. Geek Group’s private jet just landed at the military airfield.” He turned to Sloane. “When will my father wake up?”
“After tomorrow’s final treatment,” Sloane said, putting away the needles. Candlelight cast a warm glow across her delicate profile. “But he’ll need rest; he can’t be subjected to any emotional shock for the time being.”
Kaizen nodded, then paused and looked at her intently. “Dr. Rivers, you didn’t even know us, yet you’ve saved both Shawn and my father. I truly don’t know how to thank you.”
Sloane lowered her head, carefully arranging the needles. Her hand paused for a heartbeat before she went on. “Maybe fate decided the Oliver family was worth saving–and that’s why you crossed paths with me.”
Lucas stepped in smoothly. “The urgent matter now is dealing with the Geek Group threat.”
“Don’t worry,” Kaizen said, adjusting his cufflinks; the air around him grew taut with quiet authority. “I’ve already taken care of everything.” A cold smile tugged at his lips. “The Oliver family has been rooted in Mirevia for decades—we’re not some pushover that anyone can toy with.”
Jeffrey frowned slightly in his sleep, and Sloane immediately leaned over to check his pulse. Confirming there was no danger, she exhaled softly and rubbed her temple to ease the tension.
Kaizen watched her in silence, his expression unreadable.
Lucas noticed the exchange, though he said nothing.
After that, Sloane and Lucas didn’t involve themselves further. This was the Olivers‘ domain; they had already done their part by dragging the conspirators into the light. The rest was for the family to settle on their own.
Jeffrey’s condition visibly improved day by day, and the family’s troubles began to untangle.
The atmosphere in the house lightened as well; even Shawn’s mother personally came to bring Sloane some tonics.

“Dr. Rivers, you’ve worked so hard,” she said kindly, motioning for a maid to set the things down. “This is soup I had the kitchen make specially for you–to help you recover.”
“Thank you,” Sloane said, disinfecting her hands before taking a seat.
“Please, don’t be so formal; drink it while it’s hot.” Zoey sat beside her, ladling out a steaming bowl of soup with her own hands.
Sloane accepted it with a quiet thank–you. She couldn’t help noticing the way Zoey kept looking at her–softly, with something like nostalgia in her eyes.
“Mrs. Oliver,” Sloane asked carefully, “you’ve been looking at me… is there something you’d like to say?”
Zoey sighed. “Forgive me, Dr. Rivers. It’s just–you look so much like my sister–in–law, Beth. Especially those eyes…”
Sloane’s heart skipped a beat. She feigned nonchalance. “What kind of person was she?”
“Beth…” Zoey’s gaze turned warm and wistful. “She was the most striking woman I ever met. So young, yet so fearless in business–more decisive and bold than most men.”
Sloane sipped her soup quietly, listening in silence.
“I remember when she was just twenty,” Zoey continued with a fond smile. “A foreign investor tried to take advantage of the Oliver family; Beth marched straight into his office with the contract, and within minutes, she’d shut him down completely. After that, the man would cross the street just to avoid her.”
