“What herbs do you need? I’ll send someone to get them right away,” Beth asked softly.
Sloane moved to a nearby table and quickly scribbled down a list. “Everything I need is here.”
Beth scanned the paper and nodded. “I’ll have my men find these immediately.”
While Beth left to make arrangements, Sloane continued the acupuncture. When she finally removed the last needle, exhaustion washed over her. She nearly collapsed into a chair.
Beth returned just in time to see her pale face and weak movements. Panic flashed in her eyes. “What’s wrong? Are you hurt?”
Sloane shook her head slowly. It took her a moment to find her voice. “I’m fine. Just… tired.”
At that moment, Tony stirred and opened his eyes weakly. “Beth… Beth…”
“I’m here.” Beth rushed to his bedside, taking his hand gently. “You were very sick. Sloane just finished your treatment. Don’t try to move yet.”
Seeing her there safe, Tony exhaled in relief. He squeezed her hand faintly. “You made it back. You’re not hurt? How are the others?”
He remembered waking briefly earlier–Jack’s men had told him Beth went to rescue Shawn and the rest.
Sloane walked over just then. The moment Tony saw her face, identical to Beth’s younger self, his eyes widened in disbelief. “She… she…”
Beth met his gaze, still struggling to process it herself even after seeing Sloane countless times.
She gently patted his shoulder. “This is Dr. Sloane Rivers. She came with Shawn to help us- and she’s the one who just saved your life.”
“Greetings.” Sloane bowed politely. “Mr. Tony, please rest easy. The inner heat has mostly been cleared.”
Tony stared, still speechless.
Sloane stepped closer to check his pulse again. After a moment, she said calmly, “His pulse is steady, but his blood and energy are both depleted. Continued care is essential.” She took a few herbs from her kit. “I’ll prepare the medicine.”

Once she left, Beth turned to her husband. “Miles… don’t you feel it? There’s something about her–something so familiar.”
Tony frowned. “Beth, our daughter’s been gone for twenty years. We both saw the DNA report.”
“I know, but still…”
Tony didn’t say it out loud, but he too found the resemblance uncanny–almost impossible. Still, he knew how deeply Beth had suffered since their daughter’s death, and he couldn’t bring himself to be harsh.
Instead, he asked carefully, “How much do you know about this Dr. Rivers?”
“Not much,” Beth admitted. “I just met her. When she heard you were sick, she came with me immediately.”
Tony’s expression softened. “Then we owe her our thanks.”
Outside the tent, Sloane was grinding herbs in a makeshift medicine shelter. Beth approached quietly, watching her deft hands at work. “Miss Sloane, for someone so young, your medical skills are remarkable. Who did you learn from?”
Sloane’s hands paused for a brief moment. Her voice was calm, almost detached. “When I was six, my adoptive parents locked me in a dog cage. My master found me and took me in. He taught me herbs, pulse reading… said I had a gift for medicine.”
Beth’s heart clenched at the words.
“When I was eighteen, I found out I was the real daughter of the Rivers family,” Sloane continued, grinding the herbs slowly. “I went back to Stonebridge, thinking I’d finally go home. But the Rivers family preferred the girl they’d raised, Samantha. She accused me of murder just to drive me out. They sent me to an asylum for five years.” A faint, bitter smile curved her lips. “Then last year, I learned I was never their child at all.”
