489 The Journey to Remember
Sloane gave a gentle nod, her eyes shimmering with a quiet, heartfelt apology. The room felt heavy with unspoken emotions.
As anticipated, Tony soon stirred awake. He sat up slowly against the headboard, his posture composed and calm, yet there was a subtle unfamiliarity in the way his eyes scanned the room. “Excuse me, ma’am,” he said politely, directing his words to Beth. “Where am I?”
Beth felt a sudden tightening in her chest but managed to summon a soft, reassuring smile. “This is our home,” she replied gently. “I’m your wife, Beth.”
Tony’s brow furrowed slightly, but he said nothing in protest. Instead, his gaze drifted uncertainly around the room. “I’m sorry… I seem to have forgotten.”
Near the door, Lucas whispered to Sloane, “At least this time, he’s not looking at us like we’re enemies.”
Beth took a slow, steadying breath. Then, as if making a significant decision, she turned toward the wardrobe. She opened its doors and began methodically packing a suitcase, folding clothes with care.
Tony watched her silently, his eyes quietly following her every movement, as if trying to piece together fragments of a forgotten memory.
When she finished, Beth knelt beside the bed and looked up at him with a gentle, hopeful smile. “Let me take you somewhere, okay?”
Tony’s gaze locked onto hers, and an inexplicable ache settled deep in his chest. His throat tightened, but before he could second-guess himself, he nodded.
“Where are you going?” Sloane asked, noticing the suitcase in Beth’s hand as she hurried over.
Beth turned to face her, calm and steady. “I’m going to do what you suggested—visit the places we used to go when we were young. Maybe it’ll help him remember.”
A faint smile touched her lips, as if she were releasing a small burden. “And if it doesn’t work… well, then I’ll just use that time to make him fall in love with me all over again.”
She shifted her gaze to Shawn, offering him a warm, encouraging smile. “Shawn, I’m leaving the company in your hands. Do a good job, alright? I don’t want to come back just to clean up your mess.”
