The Secret Heirs of the Lycan King (by Misha K) novel Chapter 41

**When Midnight Winds Carry Secrets Toward Worlds Yet Unknown**

Scott

The call ended abruptly, leaving me staring at the darkened screen of my phone, my heart pounding with a mix of fury and disbelief. A hot wave of anger surged through me, urging me to smash something, anything, to release the tempest brewing inside. How dare they threaten my mate? They had no idea what kind of storm they were provoking. This was a mistake they would come to regret deeply.

The threat was chillingly direct, aimed squarely at Bella. I could almost feel the cold edge of danger pressing against her skin, a reminder of the sinister intentions lurking just beyond our reach. If this was the audacity they exhibited while I was merely a distant concern, what horrors would they unleash when I fully claimed her as my mate?

My gaze drifted toward Bella, who lay peacefully asleep beside me, her form a beautiful silhouette against the sheets. With a quiet resolve, I slipped out of bed, careful not to disturb her, and padded into the sitting room, my mind racing as I dialed Troy’s number.

“Bella received a threat,” I said urgently as soon as he picked up, my voice laced with tension. “A man called, insisting she forget about me, and warned that burning her shop was just the beginning. We need to track him down.”

“What the hell! I didn’t think they would find out so quickly, and now they’re resorting to this level of intimidation?” Troy’s voice was a low growl, filled with disbelief and anger.

“I suspect whoever it is is panicking. They’ve sent me a subtle hint as well,” I replied, my mind racing through the possibilities.

“Those bastards! Text me the timestamp. I’m on it,” he snapped back, determination evident in his tone.

I sent the information, ended the call, and stood there for a moment, trying to steady my racing heart. I needed to clear my mind. After a quick shower to wash away the tension, I slid back into bed beside Bella, wrapping my arms around her, pulling her close. She instinctively nestled into me, her hand resting over my heart as if it had always been meant to be there. My Lycan stirred within me, feeling a rare sense of calm wash over us. It had been far too long since she had slept beside me, and I couldn’t help but admire the beauty of my mate, her features softened in sleep.

A couple of hours later, my phone vibrated on the nightstand, jolting me from a light slumber. I reached for it, careful not to disturb Bella.

“They used a burner phone,” Troy informed me grimly. “There’s no legal trail we can follow.”

A low curse slipped from my lips. “In that case, increase security at her house. And start digging into who was behind the destruction of her shop in Dallas.”

“Understood!” Troy replied, his voice resolute.

I ended the call and pulled Bella closer to me, the warmth of her body grounding me. I didn’t know who had made that threatening call, but one thing was painfully clear: I was going to unleash a storm of vengeance upon them.

I must have drifted off again when a small movement stirred me awake. Instinct kicked in, and I let out a low growl, tightening my grip as if someone were trying to pry her away from me. Bella’s palm rested against my chest, a soothing reminder of her presence.

“Scott,” she murmured softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

My eyes fluttered open to find her watching me, a delicate blush painting her cheeks. The morning light caressed the contours of her face, and in that moment, the chaos of the world outside faded away. “I could get used to this,” I said, my voice rough with sleep. “Waking up next to you feels like a dream.” My fingers found their way to her hair, gently tangling in the soft strands.

Her blush deepened, and she looked away, trying to regain her composure. “Don’t,” she murmured, attempting to sound stern but failing miserably. “Yesterday… I’m sorry… It was overwhelming. I broke down. That’s all.”

A smile tugged at my lips; the devil within me was wide awake. “You didn’t protest AGAIN when you used me to feel better,” I teased, my tone playful.

“I did not use you!” she retorted, her eyes momentarily dropping to my bare chest. I noticed her breath hitch, a tiny but telling sign. My Lycan preened at her reaction.

“You did,” I countered lightly. “You asked me to distract you, and I obliged. Now you owe me.”

With a huff, she wriggled out of my embrace and darted toward the bathroom. I chuckled, leaning on one elbow, thoroughly entertained by her antics. When she emerged, wrapped in a towel with damp hair curling around her shoulders, I didn’t bother to hide my appreciative gaze. My body responded instantly, desire coursing through me like wildfire.

“Turn away,” she said, feigning scandal, her eyes flickering to the undeniable evidence of my arousal.

“Why would I do that?” I replied, a smirk playing on my lips. “I intend to keep looking.”

“Incorrigible,” she muttered, though I could see the corners of her mouth twitching in a suppressed smile. She moved to her suitcase, pulling out clothes and beginning to dress. I stayed where I was, shamelessly watching her every move. She slipped into her trousers and reached for her bra, and that was all the invitation I needed. Rising to my feet, I approached her from behind, catching her gaze in the mirror. “Are you trying to seduce me?”

Her heart raced, and I could see the crimson flush spreading across her cheeks. “We are leaving in an hour,” she reminded me, though her voice quivered slightly.

I let my hands find their place—one around her waist, the other tracing a slow, tantalizing line over the flat of her stomach. Her breath became shallow, and I watched our reflection as my fingers toyed with the waistband of her pants, slipping them inside. “Do you remember this?” I asked, my voice dropping to a husky whisper.

“Scott!” she gasped, pressing back against me without even realizing it.

“Greedy,” I teased softly, my heart racing. “Surrender, and save us both the trouble.”
