Chapter 29
Top floor of the Cheval Tower in downtown Limond City.
After riding the elevator up. Briar realized Cynthia’s taste had actually improved a lot
AI
the very least, there wasn’t any blaring music, and the air didn’t reek of alcohol, cigarettes, perfume, and makeup all mixed together.
If it weren’t for the barely–dressed guys and girls hanging around the pool, Briar might’ve thought this was some f
was some fancy high–society party.
“How is it? Not bad, right?” Cynthia asked, her sunglasses dangled lazily on the tip of her nose, revealing a pair of perfectly made–up eyes that winked at Briar.
Cynthia continued, “Told you I wouldn’t throw you under the bus. But seriously, where the hell is Lamb? What’s taking him so long.”
Briar casually scanned the crowd. Just from how prople were dressed, it was easy to tell who held power and who didn’t
“Why exactly are you back in the country this time?” Briar asked.
“Huh? What do you mean? Cynthia looked geminely confused
Briar looked at her. You on a mission?”
“No way.” Cynthia finally caught on, then bughed as she covered her mouth.
Cynthia added. “You know me. Aside from the occasional rotation at the base training those rookies, I haven’t done anything risky in years
“People like us live on the edge every day—who knows when someone’s gonna put a bullet in our heads? It’s way more comfortable bleeding the rich dry like a capitalist.”
Briar’s expression shifted a little. She said, “You’re actually serious about this
Cynthia replied slowly, “You don’t get it. In our line of work, making it past thing is basically a miracle. I’m twenty–six now. It’s about time I start thinking about the future?
As she spoke, Cynthia reached out and gently patted the top of Briar’s head. She said softly, “Kid, while you’re still young, start thinking ahead…. dodging bullets isn’t a long–term plan.
“That adrenaline rush from brushing with death isn’t real happiness either. You’re still | young, it’s normal to want to play around, but you goria start planning ahead eventually
Briar fell silent, thinking over Cynthia’s words. Just as she zoned out, Cynthia smacked her on the back..
Then Cynthia added, “But don’t overthink it. The day you decide to step away from the front lines, those old fogeys will be lined up to come beg
you
Briar said calmly,” joined the Supervision Department
“What?” Cynthia’s voice shot up.
Cynthia quickly lowered it when she noticed people turning to look. You joined the Supervision Department? Does the mentor know?”
Cynthia thought, “Damn. That’s his favorite, most prized student. If he finds out. I don’t even dare imagine how that will go down.
Briar didn’t seem bothered. “It’s not a big deal,”
“You..” Cynthia was about to say more-
Just then, a balding man in a suit with a beer belly walked over, holding a wine glass. “Hey, gorgeous ladies, how about a drink together?”
As he spoke, his creepy eyes darted back and forth between them
Briar looked at Cynthia with a deadpan expression. “Your party, your guest, your problem”
Cynthia wasn’t fazed. She waved the guy off. “Beat it. I’m in a good mood today, so I won’t stoop to
your
level.
If it weren’t for the setting, that sleazy look he gave Cynthia would’ve earned him a pair of empty eye sockets by now.
But that one line completely pissed the man off.

The man shouted, “You bitch! Acting all high and mighty, huh? Dressed like that, what are you pretending to be! If you don’t drink this damn wine, I’ll make sure you never show your face in this city again!”
Cynthia hadn’t taken him seriously at all. He was just some clueless loser who’d be taught a lesson later.
But then he had to comment on her outfit. That hit a nerve.
Briar, standing nearby, casually twisted the knife. “If you didn’t dress like that, how else would people see past your pretty face and spot the ruthless. CEO underneath?
In a flash. Cynthia grabbed an unopened bottle of red wine and smashed it hard against the man’s head with a loud crack.
For a second, the place fell silent. Then the man dropped to
ped to the floor, screaming like a stuck pig,
The commotion caught the attention of quite a few people, and even the security guards rushed over
The guy was now soaked in red wine and glass shards, blood still trickling down from the gash on his head.
He clutched the wound and pointed at Cynthia, who was still holding the bottom half of the bottle. He snapped. “You hurry! Grab that crazy bitch for me!”
Just a damn hostess, and she dares to hit me! I’m going to make her pay for that, the man thought,
But as soon as he said it, the guards all froze..
The man shouted angrily, “What are you standing around for? I said grab that woman-
“Ms. Davidson?” one of the guards asked cautiously
Under everyone’s stunned gaze, Cynthia glanced at the man on the ground. “Who is this guy“”
The man stiffened, completely speechless. Judging by her outfit, he thought she couldn’t be anything decent. How could the possibly be
But no one was paying attention to him anymore.
One of the guards replied respectfully. “Ms. Davidson, this is Mr. Gordon, the general manager of—” –
“Mr. Gordon, huh?” Cynthia snorted. “Looks like it’s time for his company to go bankrupt.”
The guard looked puzzled.
