The Sickened Luna's Last Chance novel Chapter 396

Chapter 306

Ella’s POV

I was too late

We had burned the artifacts and had broken the curse, but Liam’s body had been through too much. He looked so small in that hospital bed, too small, too broken. We were too fucking late.

I called you as soon as I could, the doctor was saying to Alexander, although his voice sounded far away to my ears, distant and muffled, as if I were stuck underwater. Drowning

As if I were underWhere was 1?

I was lost in a sea of something I could hardly recall. It was like a distant dream, too far to grasp, and yet a memory at the precipice of my mind. For a moment, as I stared at Liam laying still in that bed, I didn’t think i was here anymore. I was somewhere far away, somewhere not in this realm, drowning in an ocean of cold hands and screams.

Liam was dying.

I’m sorry. The doctor’s voice pulled me out of the darkness for the briefest moment. We’re trying our best, but he’s not responding to anything

I slipped back under. We didn’t make it in time. The moment we’d burnt the artifacts had been one moment too

late.

Liam was dying.

He’s been in and out of cardiac arrest for half an hour now. At first, he came out of it himself

Because the curse was in the midst of being broken. But we were late. The curse was breaking at the same time Liam was. Nothing could bring him back from that.

I think we’re going to have to call it…”

Liam was fuck g dying.

I’m very sorry, Alpha Alexander. But with the do not resuscitate order having been signed, there is nothing more we can legally do. Alpha Liam will only suffer unnecessarily if we try anything.

Alexander’s face was pale. I understandHe was saying something else, but I couldn’t hear it. Couldn’t hear it over the sound of the screams. My own screams.

The moment they unplugged the heart monitor and called the time of death, I crumpled. Those icy hands dragged me under, and nothing anyone said could pull me back up. They dug into me, clawed at me, dragged me to a realm I could never return fromshould have never returned from.

A realm I couldn’t remember, and yet somehow, I knew it was there. I knew I had been there. I knew Liam was heading there now, and there was nothing I could do to stop his descent.

I must have thrown myself at Liam’s corpse at some point, because the next thing I knew, something warm was settling over me. A blanket. Or a hand? I hardly felt it through the haze. My tears blocked out the sight of Liam’s
