The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 173

Zachary went on, his tone cold and commanding. “Tomorrow, spend some time with Tracy. She’s the right woman for you. That Naomi is just an illegitimate nobody—you stay away from her if you don’t want to see her end up dead.”

Lester knew Zachary well enough to realize he meant every word. “Understood, Zachary. I haven’t contacted her at all. I’m giving her the silent treatment—she’s getting nothing from me. Just... don’t hurt her.”

“Hmph. It’s best you remember that. Olivia stealing your father was bad enough, but that old fool—only your mother ever cared about him. But you, Lester, you’re your mother’s only child. Don’t betray her the way your father did.” Zachary’s words were heavy with warning.

“I know. I won’t let my mother down.”

“I’ll leave it at that. No need to repeat myself and risk you thinking I’m nagging.”

After the call, Lester went to pay his bill. As he stood, he caught Naomi’s gaze from across the restaurant—her eyes full of hope, clearly waiting for him to come over and say hello.

But he didn’t. He paid and left in a hurry, never looking back.

Naomi’s heart sank, her face turning ashen. It was over. Lester was really done with her.

Her dreams of marrying into the Quigley family had been well and truly crushed.

Her phone rang—it was Joseph calling.

She answered, her voice warmer than usual, none of her usual reserve.

If she couldn’t hold on to Lester, she would make sure to keep Joseph. The Wood family might not be as powerful as the Quigley, but they were still wealthy enough.

“Naomi, are you free tonight? Want to catch a movie with me?”

This time, Naomi agreed without hesitation. “Sure! I’ll send you my address—come pick me up.”

After hanging up, she turned to Mary. “You can head home. I’ll wait here for my friend to pick me up.”

“Alright.”

Tonight’s success was due in large part to Naomi. Lindsay had worried about how to act convincingly enough for Lester to believe her. If he’d bothered to read the contract in detail, the scheme would’ve fallen apart.

Luckily, Naomi had gotten Yves' contact info and deliberately texted him about having dinner alone with Lester at the restaurant.

That gave them the idea to use the divorce as a way to set their plan in motion—and it had worked perfectly.

Lester was so confident in himself, he hadn’t even looked at the contract before signing, assuming it was the same one as before.

“Someone like that doesn’t belong at Bloom.” Yves' tone was icy. “Have HR prepare a termination letter. Even if Mary was just being used by Naomi, a person like her shouldn’t be working here.”

Lindsay waved off his suggestion. “No need to fire her. Mary’s actually pretty competent.”

“There are plenty of talented people out there—we don’t need her,” Yves replied, taking Lindsay’s hands in his, his voice softening. “Anyone who tries to hurt my wife shouldn’t be getting paid by Bloom. They don’t deserve it.”

Lindsay laughed. Exactly! Taking Bloom’s money and stabbing the boss’s wife in the back? If she didn’t get what was coming to her, who would?
