Naomi caught on immediately, and Mary’s cheeks flushed crimson. Still, she stubbornly denied it. “Ugh, who could possibly like a cripple? I prefer tall, strong men. He’s just not good enough for me.”
Naomi couldn’t help but laugh out loud, amused by how blind Mary truly was—mistaking a priceless gem for a worthless pebble.
A man like Yves, perched atop the social pyramid, wasn’t someone Mary was even qualified to carry the shoes for.
“Lindsay, are you really going through with the divorce?” Lester asked, feigning concern, though he was clearly just waiting to enjoy the fallout.
He hadn’t forgotten how, not too long ago, Lindsay had flaunted Mr. Quigley Sr.’s favoritism, disrespecting and humiliating him at every turn.
Lindsay didn’t bother answering. Instead, she handed him the papers. “You’re the only one left to sign.”
Lester blinked in surprise, taking the documents and flipping through them with growing confusion—until he realized it was the contract he’d drafted earlier. Inside were several copies of the divorce agreement, all already signed by Yves.
“I promised you I’d do my part. I never break my word. Yves only signed without reading because he was too furious,” Lindsay explained, her tone even.
“Lindsay, I can’t thank you enough,” Lester stammered, his heart racing, hands trembling with excitement.
After waiting so many years, he was finally about to get his hands on all of Yves' shares and properties.
“Well, what are you waiting for?” Lindsay smiled, eyes bright with encouragement.
Afraid she might change her mind, Lester scribbled his signature without hesitation.
Once he handed the contracts to his legal team tomorrow, it wouldn’t be long before every last share under Yves' name was transferred to him.
As soon as Lester finished signing, Lindsay neatly collected both copies and tucked them away.
Determined to keep up appearances, Lester stayed warm and friendly, even inviting Lindsay out for dinner and a movie after they finished.
But Lindsay declined with a polite smile. “I’ll have to pass. I have some things to take care of tonight, but maybe another time. Thank you anyway.”
