The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 207

Yves affectionately ruffled her hair. "As long as you like it."

"But bidding on something and not taking it home? Isn't that a waste of money?" Cheryl muttered under her breath.

For once, Yves nodded in agreement. "Exactly. So, you'll be the one paying. That way, it won't be a waste."

Lindsay couldn't help but chuckle. The bidding was already up to five million!

For a notorious penny-pincher like Cheryl, that was practically torture!

Cheryl's eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Yves. "Hold on! You're the one trying to make Lindsay happy, so why am I the one paying? Have you no shame?"

"Aren't you partly responsible for Lindsay getting kidnapped in the first place? Now that she's set her sights on a gift, is it too much to ask for you to chip in and make her happy?" Yves argued so reasonably that Cheryl found herself at a loss for words.

The bid had already reached six million; some people just lived for the thrill and novelty of it all.

Even knowing how ferocious the girl was, they were still willing to spend a fortune to have her.

Cheryl glanced at Lindsay, then finally gritted her teeth, raising her hand. "Eight million!"

Lindsay shot Cheryl a surprised look. Seeing the notorious cheapskate willingly part with her money was a rare sight indeed.

A smile played on Yves's lips. He had been deliberately teasing Cheryl, knowing how tight-fisted she was—a classic penny-pincher.

Eight million was a staggering amount for her to spend.

Even at the high price of eight million, another bidder emerged, but Cheryl refused to back down and kept raising her hand.

It wasn't that she didn't have the money; it just pained her to spend so much.

The ship wouldn't dock until morning, so they had to spend the night on board.

Lindsay brought up Lester Quigley. "By the way, what about Lester? Aren't you going to rescue him?"

"What's the rush? We'll just grab him on our way off the ship. That way, I can tell my brother I did my duty," Yves sneered. He had given his brother's family enough face this time; they wouldn't be so lucky again.

"The people on this ship are monsters. Aren't you worried Lester won't live to see the sunrise?" Lindsay asked, a slight smile playing on her lips as she raised an eyebrow.

"If he can't even handle a small trial like this, then he doesn't deserve the Quigley name. If he dies, so be it." Yves's tone shifted. "Besides, I had Cheryl post his profile on the dark web with a twenty-million-dollar bounty. Who wouldn't be tempted by that?

"Even if he gets through this, something worse will be waiting for him. He came after you first, so he can't blame his uncle for being ruthless."

Lindsay gave a wry laugh. "I guess we'll see which one of us is harder to kill. Though if I were an assassin, I'd definitely choose the twenty-million-dollar target. A kill is a kill, so why not go for the one with the bigger paycheck?"
