The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 213

Lindsay shot Cheryl a look. "What are you talking about? If Jessica were that powerful, she wouldn't have been captured and put up for auction."

"But she's the most suspicious person here right now, and..." Cheryl started to say more, but she caught sight of Jessica walking toward them and swallowed her words.

"Are they still alive?" Jessica came over, her gaze falling on the men lying on the sofa. Their breathing was shallow, but at least they were alive.

Lindsay replied, "They are, but I don't know when they'll wake up."

Jessica blinked at Lindsay and asked with a serious expression, "You don't want them to die, do you?"

Lindsay didn't answer Jessica, instead looking over at Yves and Cheryl, who were giving her strange looks.

"Cheryl, come with me. I need to talk to you," Yves said, giving her a meaningful look. She understood immediately.

"Okay." Cheryl followed Yves out, pointedly closing the door behind her to give Lindsay and Jessica some privacy.

Lindsay took Jessica's hand and sat beside her on the bed. She began to probe gently, "Back where you're from... are there a lot of strange... practices? Like hexes, or maybe poisons?"

Jessica smiled at Lindsay. "Are you asking if I'm the one who killed everyone on the ship?"

Lindsay pressed her lips together and finally nodded. "Was it you?"

Jessica shook her head. "Of course not. If I had that kind of power, would I have let them strip me naked, throw me in a cage like an animal, and auction me off?"

The logic, though blunt, was sound.

Jessica squeezed Lindsay's hand and sighed faintly. "Do I look like the kind of person who would kill someone? I may be from a small town, but I know the law. The people who brought me here may have ignored it, but that doesn't mean I can break it too."

He'd fought him off, but after that, he thought he smelled a sweet, floral scent, and then everything went blank. Now he'd woken up in a strange room with all these people.

"You don't remember anything?" Lindsay asked Lester.

Lester shot back, "What am I supposed to remember? It's like I blacked out from drinking. I have no idea what's going on."

Lindsay fell silent.

Arthur was asking Lester the same questions, but Lindsay remained quiet.

The other survivors found the situation too strange and unsettling. They opened the door to leave, but the sight of the bodies in the hallway scared them half to death, and they scrambled back inside.
