He’d always figured Anne was Felicia’s child. Still, seeing the proof right in front of him left him genuinely stunned.

Max’s features remained calm, barely showing a hint of what he felt. “Okay,” he said, then ended the call. He lowered his hand and turned to look out the car window, his face unreadable, lost in thoughts only he knew.

Felicia stayed busy until well past nine that night. Since she needed to be close to the summit for the next three days, she was staying at a nearby hotel instead of heading back to her villa. Jeremy was waiting for her in the parking lot, ready to grab some late-night food together.

When she walked out, she spotted Jeremy leaning against his car, waiting. He noticed her and waved her over.

She slid into the passenger seat, buckled her seatbelt, and they pulled out of the lot.

“Where’s Anthony tonight?” she asked.

Jeremy grinned. “Busy charming his new girlfriend.”

Felicia let out a laugh. “He really has no plans to settle down, does he?”

Jeremy shook his head. “Maybe he just hasn’t found the one person he’d want to settle down for.”

“He’s dated so many women already. I guess marriage just isn’t on his radar.”

They both fell quiet for a second, then headed to a little Western restaurant nearby. As they walked inside, they passed a couple coming out, but Felicia barely noticed.

By this hour, she couldn’t eat much. Over the years, she’d gone through a lot to lose weight and stay fit. She wasn’t the skinny type, but healthy and soft in all the right places. It meant she had to pay extra attention to what she ate and never skipped her workouts.

“If I eat one more bite, that’s another half hour on the treadmill for me,” she joked.

Jeremy looked at her. “You don’t have to be so strict with yourself, you know.”
