Felicia held up her phone, recording as Anne laughed and ran across the field. Watching her daughter like this, Felicia’s heart felt completely full. Moments like these, just the two of them together, meant everything to her.

After a few laps, Felicia scooped Anne up and they settled onto a bench for a break. She handed Anne her water bottle. “Here, have some water.” Felicia took off Anne’s cap and gently wiped the sweat from her forehead.

Just then, Max showed up.

“Daddy!” Anne called out, her face lighting up.

Max came over and sat down next to Anne, reaching over to fix her bangs that had gotten all sticky from sweat. “Wyatt and Amber are bringing Mandy soon.”

She perked up right away. “Mandy’s coming?”

Max nodded.

Anne was thrilled. She turned quickly to Felicia. “Evelynn, can we ride horses with Mandy?”

Felicia smiled and nodded, though inside she felt a pang. She’d been hoping to have Anne all to herself today, but this was still better than spending the day alone with Max. She knew he probably felt the same way. There was nothing left to say between them, and it was better for Anne if they kept things easy.

It didn’t take long for Wyatt’s family to arrive at the stables. He’d planned to bring Amber and Mandy out for some fresh air nearby anyway.

Mandy spotted Felicia and greeted her with a shy smile. “Hi, Evelynn.”

Felicia grinned. “Hey, Mandy. It’s been a while.”
