His eyes were icy as he stared at her, a hint of mockery curling at the corner of his lips.
Felicia caught the ridicule in his gaze and frowned. What was that supposed to mean?
Before she could figure it out, Andrea strolled up next to Max and slipped her arm through his, her tone sweet and close. “Max, what are you staring at?”
Andrea followed his line of sight and spotted Jeremy and Evelynn downstairs. Instantly, her expression clouded over.
Felicia glanced away, letting her hair fall to shield her face. Jeremy leaned in, his voice low. “Let’s go.”
She nodded, and together they made their way forward. They didn’t get far before they bumped into someone they knew and got pulled into a lively conversation.
Meanwhile, Andrea and Max made their way down the stairs, her arm still looped through his. Andrea looked absolutely stunning in a white, figure-hugging gown, her hair swept up and decorated with pearls. She looked flawless. The man beside her wore a deep blue suit that set off his striking features. There was something regal and dangerously charming about him, the kind of confidence that turned heads wherever he went.
Walking side by side, they looked like a couple out of a magazine—perfectly matched.
People in the ballroom couldn’t help but compare the two pairs: Jeremy and Felicia, Max and Andrea. Both couples had that rare, top-tier beauty and presence that pulled all eyes their way. With the four of them together, everyone else seemed to fade into the background.
As soon as Max appeared, guests started approaching him, glasses in hand, eager to chat.
By now, Felicia and Jeremy had drifted so far from Max and Andrea that they were pretty much out of each other’s sight.
That’s when Felicia saw someone she never expected—Gavin, a fellow PhD from Stanford.
He’d once chased after her with impressive enthusiasm back in the States, but she’d turned him down without hesitation. Gavin had taken it well, though, even if it bruised his pride. “Evelynn, you’re the first girl to ever turn me down,” he’d joked. “But I still admire you. Can we be friends?”
Felicia had always respected Gavin’s talent, even if she didn’t care much for his personal life. He’d even helped her out once, so they’d built a solid friendship. After she moved home, they lost touch, both caught up in busy lives.
She honestly never thought she’d run into him here.

Update pls...
The story is a drag. How can they write crap like this where the female lead is like a lapdog, and the male lead is a complete trash? They use a child to blackmail the mother into staying. The female lead should not go back to the trashy male lead. I would prefer her to be with Jeremy....
Hey. Thank you for updating this novel here. Request you to update a big bulky lot of chapters please. It is such an interesting novel that 10 per day is simply not enough. Thanks again...
