Max tucked Anne into bed, settling beside her and breathing in the soft, sweet scent that lingered in the room. He pulled the blanket up to her chin, making sure she was comfortable.

With Max and Evelynn nearby, Anne finally relaxed. She looked up at him and said, “If you and Evelynn were together, we could all sleep in the same bed.”

Max gave her a gentle pat on the back. “Alright, close your eyes now. Time to sleep.”

Anne was usually out by this time and tonight was no different. She nestled into his arms, surrounded by the comforting scents of her dad and Evelynn, and drifted off almost instantly.

Felicia stepped out of the bathroom, her hair still damp, and saw Anne already fast asleep. Max was turning down the bedside lamp, letting a warm, gentle glow fill the room.

He glanced over at Felicia. The low light softened everything, but she still looked elegant in her silk nightgown. The style was modest, but it did nothing to hide her graceful figure. Her long hair fell loosely around her shoulders and, without any makeup, her features looked even softer, almost innocent.

Having a man in her bedroom felt strange and awkward for Felicia. Before she could ask him to leave, he spoke up, his voice cool and distant. “Take care of Anne.”

There was a warning hidden in his words.

He headed for the door. As he walked past her, Felicia caught a whiff of his clean, fresh scent. Max stepped out and quietly closed the door behind him.

Felicia finally let herself exhale. She climbed into bed and slipped under the covers, settling into the spot next to Anne.

Downstairs, Colton, Greg, and Luke were still waiting on the couch. Colton shot Max a look and let out a small, annoyed sound.
