By the time they got to the office, Luke had already arranged for a female employee to stay with Felicia and help her out. Ten minutes later, the business partners showed up. Felicia sat next to Luke, quietly translating for him in real time. The negotiation went off without a hitch. As she listened to everyone talk, Felicia realized this new game they were working on was huge. It was aimed at a global market, with an investment of three hundred million dollars. The project would take at least three years before it launched.

When the meeting finally wrapped up, it was already five. Felicia felt exhausted. Luke noticed and had someone lead her to the lounge so she could rest up before dinner. While she was sitting there, Felicia called Ava to let her know she wouldn’t be home that night.

After a while, she decided to find the restroom. When she asked a staff member for directions and started walking down the hall, she heard Luke’s voice from up ahead. “I can’t make it to the birthday dinner tonight, Mom. Please congratulate Auntie for me. I’ll visit her when I have time.”

Felicia froze for a second when she heard him. Tonight was his aunt’s birthday dinner. The way the Hawthorne family treated her had always depended on Max. Before, their coldness used to sting. Now, though, she didn’t feel anything at all. She just felt calm, almost detached. Maybe Max had brought Andrea to the dinner tonight.

Luke finished his call and turned around, spotting Felicia. For a moment, he looked surprised. Felicia met his eyes and managed a small smile. “Just heading to the restroom,” she said.

Luke seemed to snap out of his thoughts and nodded. “Be careful,” he told her.

When Felicia came out of the restroom, her phone vibrated. She glanced at the screen. It was the Miranda calling. Curious, she picked up. “Grandma?” she said.

Miranda’s familiar voice came through. “Felicia, come over to the old house for dinner tonight, alright?”

Felicia was a little confused until it clicked. Brysen must not have been feeling well, so they probably left the birthday dinner early and went home instead. Ever since Miranda found out Felicia was having a daughter, she’d become much warmer toward her. Felicia agreed right away. “Okay.”

After she hung up, she went to find Luke, and bumped into him just as he was coming out of his office.

“Grandma just called. She wants me to come to the manor,” Felicia told him.
