“I’m giving you two options,” Max said. “You can step up and be the mother Anne deserves. If you want to take this to court, I’m ready for that too. Or, you can go back to America right now and never come back. Anne can just grow up pretending you never existed.”

Felicia grabbed the wine bottle from the coffee table and smashed it on the floor. Red wine splattered across Max’s pant leg. Her voice trembled with rage. “Max, don’t push me.”
Max didn’t even flinch. His dark eyes were cold and unreadable. He looked at Felicia, completely unfazed by her outburst.
He pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a slow drag, letting smoke curl lazily around him. He looked almost bored, a chill in his every move. “You can throw your fit, but don’t overdo it.”
Felicia glared at him, chest rising and falling as she tried to steady her breathing. Suddenly, a sharp laugh slipped out. “Max, do you even love Anne? Or is it always just about you?”
“I’ll never abandon Anne,” Max said quietly. “I won’t let anything happen to her.”
“Oh, really?” Felicia shot back. “So you’re not marrying Andrea? You’re just going to keep her on the side forever?”
Max’s eyes grew colder. “Andrea’s situation isn’t your problem.”
Felicia clenched her fists so tightly her knuckles went white. The pressure in her chest was almost too much. She took a shaky breath. “Alright, since you care so much about Anne, let’s go public with the fact we’re married. If you won’t say it, I will.”
Everyone around them already whispered about Max and Andrea.
If the world found out the Curtis family heiress was the other woman and Max was cheating on his wife, BlueMarble Investments would take a serious hit. The Hawthornes cared about their name more than anything. A scandal would cut deep.
That glamorous, untouchable world the rich lived in was all smoke and mirrors. Once the truth came out, all that gloss would turn into a knife pointed right at them.

The story is a drag. How can they write crap like this where the female lead is like a lapdog, and the male lead is a complete trash? They use a child to blackmail the mother into staying. The female lead should not go back to the trashy male lead. I would prefer her to be with Jeremy....
