Max’s lips curled into a small, knowing smile, but his eyes stayed shadowed and unreadable. “Is that so?” he said, his voice low.
Wyatt let out a sigh, gave Max’s shoulder a gentle pat, and said, “Just make sure you know what you are doing, alright?” Without waiting for a reply, he turned and headed back inside.
Max glanced out at the garden. Down below, Felicia must have felt his gaze because she looked up. For a moment, their eyes met across the distance, her face cool and unreadable as ever. She only looked at him for a second before turning away, her expression giving nothing away.
Soon, evening settled in. The lights came on and the whole place felt even brighter and more alive than it had during the day. Children’s laughter rang out as they danced together across the grass.
Felicia was sitting with a lady she’d met earlier, who turned out to be Cian’s older sister. Cian came over, took the seat beside Felicia, and raised his glass to hers. They clinked glasses and shared a smile.
A little ways off, Max watched Anne as he sipped his drink. Kennedy, sitting nearby, kept glancing over at Felicia and Cian. He couldn’t help himself. “Is Cian actually serious about Evelynn?” he asked, his tone a little bitter.
He’d always thought Evelynn and Jeremy were together, but today she’d said she didn’t have a boyfriend. That had given Kennedy hope, even though she hadn’t looked his way once all day. What surprised him more was how close Anne was to Evelynn, and how Max didn’t seem to mind. It just made him more convinced there was something between Max and Evelynn that no one else knew about.
Max’s eyes flickered toward Felicia, who was chatting politely with Cian, that polite smile never slipping. He only watched for a second before turning away. “If you’re that interested, why don’t you go ask him yourself?” he said quietly.
Just then, Wyatt led Amber out onto the lawn and started dancing with her. Mandy clapped along with the music, grinning from ear to ear. As the band picked up, more people joined in, filling the grass with couples spinning and swaying.
Anne looked around for her dad and Evelynn, but they weren’t sitting together. She hurried over to Max, eyes wide with excitement. Max saw her coming and put down his glass, opening his arms.
“Daddy, you have to dance with Evelynn,” Anne insisted, tugging at his hand.
“Slow down,” Max chuckled, letting her pull him to his feet.

Update pls...
The story is a drag. How can they write crap like this where the female lead is like a lapdog, and the male lead is a complete trash? They use a child to blackmail the mother into staying. The female lead should not go back to the trashy male lead. I would prefer her to be with Jeremy....
Hey. Thank you for updating this novel here. Request you to update a big bulky lot of chapters please. It is such an interesting novel that 10 per day is simply not enough. Thanks again...
