Miranda didn’t ask any questions. She just grabbed her things and hurried to the hospital.

The night before, when Felicia was rushed to the ER, Ava had been a bundle of nerves. She tried calling Felicia, but a nurse picked up the phone instead. Colton, Ava, and Greg headed straight to the hospital. Once Felicia was stable, Colton and Greg went home. Ava stayed behind with Felicia, refusing to leave her side.

Ava didn’t sleep at all that night. Around four in the morning, she ran home just long enough to make some breakfast for Felicia, then hurried back to the hospital.

Felicia noticed the worry written all over Ava’s face and offered a gentle smile. “Ava, I’m really okay. You don’t have to worry so much.”

Ava’s heart hurt for her. It was painfully clear now. If a man didn’t love you, he could be so heartless, even if you were pregnant and not feeling well. He could just look right past you, like you didn’t matter at all. Ava didn’t even ask about what happened with Max last night. She figured Felicia had enough on her plate.

When Felicia finished eating, a nurse came in to check her vitals. Around nine, Miranda showed up. Felicia was surprised to see her and greeted her softly. “Grandma.”

Miranda looked her over and seemed a little relieved to see Felicia wasn’t in bad shape. Her first question was, “Is the baby alright?”

Felicia nodded. “The doctor says everything’s fine now.”

Miranda let out a quiet sigh. “Good. I’m glad.”

She glanced at Felicia and asked, “So how did you end up in the hospital?”

Felicia dropped her gaze, not sure how to answer. She stayed quiet. Miranda noticed and didn’t push. She only stayed a few more minutes, reminding Felicia to take care of herself before leaving. She didn’t say a single word to Ava the whole time.
