The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 77

“Did you really come all the way here just to check up on my job?” Max asked.

Darin sat back on the sofa, a small smile on his lips. “Even if I said I care, you’d probably just brush it off.”

“Not always,” Max replied, grinning.

They shared a quick laugh, easing the tension in the room.

Darin’s tone shifted as he asked, “Are you actually planning to see this Brightfield Digital deal through? It’s your father-in-law’s company, you know.”

Max shrugged. “Who owns it doesn’t matter.”

Darin knew Max well enough. The guy hated losing, especially when Roen Capital was involved, so Darin decided not to push any further.

That same afternoon, Felicia was discharged from the hospital and went home. The doctor told her to stay in bed and rest for a couple of days, just to be safe.

Colton looked exhausted. The company acquisition had dragged on without any resolution, and new streaks of gray hair had started to show. When he heard that Riverline Properties was willing to reopen negotiations, he felt a bit of hope, but he didn’t let himself get too excited.

Greg was buried in work, trying to secure funding for his company’s latest project. He barely had time to do anything else.

Felicia heard some news that caught her attention. Roen Capital was really optimistic about a project Greenway Electrical Services was working on. It had already passed two rounds of internal review.

New Year’s Day was only a week away. Time seemed to be slipping by faster than ever. A new year was right around the corner.

Riverline Properties officially drafted a plan to acquire Brightfield Digital. Darin signed the paperwork and told Carter, the project manager, to move quickly and wrap things up. Carter followed instructions and signed a bunch of agreements with Brightfield Digital’s top executives.

The media caught wind of the story almost immediately. People following the business news couldn’t figure out what was going on. Riverline Properties had almost acquired Brightfield Digital, but then the deal fell apart at the last minute. Greenwell Clinical jumped in, but BlueMarble Investments blocked them. Then Roen Capital stepped in to support Greenwell Clinical. After all the back-and-forth, Riverline Properties ended up buying Brightfield Digital anyway. It almost looked like they’d set the whole thing up, yet they still paid two hundred million for the company. The whole situation was confusing to everyone watching.

As soon as Andrea heard the news, she went straight to find Darin. He had just finished a call with Max.

Darin hadn’t told Max about his decision to go through with the acquisition, which made the rivalry between BlueMarble Investments and Roen Capital feel pointless in the end. With BlueMarble bowing out, Riverline Properties was the only buyer left standing.

Andrea stormed into Darin’s office, clearly upset. “Why did you go along with buying Brightfield Digital?” she demanded.

Darin glanced up from the file he was reading and answered calmly, “Brightfield Digital fits what Riverline is looking for. Andrea, stop making this into a big deal.”

Andrea’s eyes filled with tears. “How am I making a big deal? You did this on purpose.”

Without waiting for a reply, she ran out of the office, tears streaming down her face.

Just then, Darin’s assistant walked in and saw what had happened.
