That was true enough.
The nature of a team always mirrored its leader.
A clear directive from the top meant the job would get done right down the line.
“Miss Crawford, this way, please.” Harold Chapman’s assistant had already seen Kirsten Delaney and Gian Atwood to their car, and now gestured for Danielle Crawford to follow him.
Danielle offered no protest and walked over.
The assistant pulled open the rear door for her.
As Danielle slid into the back seat, she paused, caught off guard.
Harold was already there, sitting in the back, head bowed over a stack of work documents.
She pressed her lips together, then greeted him, “Mr. Chapman.”
“Surprised to see me here?” Harold set aside the papers, turning to meet her startled gaze.
He gave a soft, easy laugh. “No need to be nervous. Work kept me too busy to meet you all at the airport, but I wouldn’t dream of missing the hot springs.”
Hospitality in the South was famously attentive.
Danielle offered a polite smile. “You really don’t have to go to so much trouble for us. We can get around on our own. You’ve already gone above and beyond as a host.”
Harold just waved it off. “Not at all. It’s good for me to relax a little outside of work.”
His eyes crinkled with a smile as he looked at her. “It’s been ages since I’ve had guests from out of town.”
There was always a gentle warmth about him, a pleasant ease that made people feel instantly at home.
He didn’t have that overbearing intensity you’d expect from someone who’d spent years at the top.
Some people knew how to tuck away their sharp edges.
In business, they called men like him “smiling tigers.”
Since he’d made his intentions clear, Danielle dropped any further pleasantries.
The drive to the hot springs resort passed in comfortable silence, the atmosphere relaxed and unforced.
As their car rolled to a stop, several other vehicles pulled in behind them.
Danielle glanced over her shoulder at the unfamiliar plates—until she spotted a face she knew stepping down from the lead Land Rover.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
Please update...
The last chapter was too short. More pls. Thank you....
