"Rebecca, I'm counting to three! If you're not out here, today's wedding is canceled!"
"One!"
"Two!"
When he actually started counting, the bridesmaids and the bride's family were stunned.
He had no patience for their games, and his attitude made it clear he didn't even want to marry the bride.
"Three!"
He said the numbers crisply, without a hint of hesitation.
And on "three," he turned to leave.
Penelope's eyes narrowed. This wedding was happening whether he liked it or not. She couldn't be the only one who knew how despicable they were; everyone had to know.
She was going to make it so that the Sullivan family and Rebecca could never hold their heads high in Orenth again.
"A wedding is no joke," she said loudly.
Her voice seemed to trigger something in Zebulon. His eyes turned red. "I never imagined that on my wedding day, you would be a bridesmaid instead of the bride."
"Don't be ridiculous!"
"Can you really bear to watch me marry someone else?"
"Zebulon!"
"I actually regret it..."
Penelope wanted to roll her eyes. Playing the part of the devoted lover at a time like this wasn't just shameless; it was pure malice.
"A wedding is supposed to be lively! We're just trying to add to the festive atmosphere. If you leave because of this, you'll make us look like the bad guys!" she exclaimed, her voice loud enough for everyone to hear.
The other bridesmaids snapped out of their stupor and rushed to block Zebulon's path.
"We were just trying to help! Don't make us look bad!"
The groomsmen got a juicy piece of gossip and immediately started sharing it with each other.
As she watched Zebulon and Rebecca being pushed into the wedding car by the wedding party, Penelope let out a huge sigh of relief.
A scumbag and a home-wrecker deserved to get married and torture each other for the rest of their lives. That was a perfect ending.
Susan walked up to Penelope, her face a mask of guilt, looking like she wanted to say something but didn't dare.
"Go on, tell me. How is Rebecca planning to humiliate me?"
"How did you know?" Susan asked, shocked.
Penelope's lips curled. "She invited me to be her maid of honor. It certainly wasn't to make herself feel better. It was to embarrass me, preferably in front of all the big names in Orenth's business circle, so I'd be run out of town."
Susan let out a breath. "You're right."
