Annabelle was a woman of action.

Right after Sophia mentioned arranging a meeting. Annabelle had everything lined up at Kazuwa House, their favorite restaurant, for the very next day.

Kazuwa House was a famous restaurant in Jelasburg.

As soon as they slid open the door, warm, golden light spilled down over the hinoki wood bar.

Inside the private room, twelve bulbs hung from the beams, their delicate, translucent washi paper gently swaying in the breeze, casting drifting patterns of light across the pine floor.

Sophia was dressed in a satin blazer, paired with black dress pants and white high heels.

Annabelle stood beside her and introduced, “Sophie, this is the CEO from Nelson Group, Micah Nelson.”

Nelson Group only jumped into the beauty game a few years ago-they were the new kid on the block, full of rookie energy.

Last year, they dropped a medicated face mask that blew up overnight, earning them instant street cred.

Then they launched a few more beauty products that scooped up praise from everywhere, and started snatching away a serious chunk of Yadel Group’s market share.

With Yadel Group caught up in one scandal after another lately, Nelson Group was cleaning up during the mess and now looked ready to take over the whole scene.

Micah looked like he was just past thirty, standing tall and graceful in the private room, his figure elegant and his shoulders perfectly straight.

The soft, golden light washed over him, giving him a refined, almost noble vibe.

His face sparked familiarity-especially his eyes. They bore an unmistakable resemblance to Sophia’s, almost as if they shared the same gaze.

Micah reached out and shook Sophia’s hand. “Dr. Evans, pleasure to meet you. I’m Micah Nelson, CEO of Nelson Group.”

Sophia blinked, a hint of surprise flickering in her eyes. “Nelson?”

Micah arched an eyebrow, sounding curious. “So, do you know me, Dr. Evans?”

Sophia answered quickly, her tone a bit guarded. “It’s just that I recently learned an elder in my family shares that surname, so the name kind of catches my attention.”

She released his hand, gave a polite nod for him to take a seat, then joined Annabelle at the table.

The place had mats and sunken seating under the table. Right now, the table was loaded with food, dishes covering every

inch.

Annabelle leaned in, picked up the sake bottle nearby, and filled each of their cups.

Micah gave an easy-going smile-he looked completely harmless. “Dr. Evans, what you’re describing is the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon.”

Sophia knew about it-once you notice something, suddenly it seems to show up everywhere you look.

For example, with Micah, that Nelson surname always caught her eye-because her birth mother was also a Nelson.

Sophia smiled and said, “Or maybe I just really feel at ease around you, Mr. Nelson.”

Micah lifted his glass with a grin. “Dr. Evans, I feel that way too. Here’s to you.”

Sophia raised her own glass, clinking it lightly against Micah’s.

In perfect timing, they both tilted their heads back and finished their drinks in one smooth motion, setting the glasses down together as if they’d done this a hundred times before.

Annabelle watched, momentarily stunned. “Hey, you two-do you have to be like this? It’s like you just clicked right away?

Micah picked up the sake bottle, poured Sophia a fresh glass, then poured one for himself.

“Ms. Quinn, that’s a perfect way to put it. I really do feel an instant connection with Dr. Evans. Let me toast you again, Dr. Evans.”

Micah raised his glass again, but Annabelle shot him a look. “Don’t tell me you’re trying to get Sophie tipsy already, Mr. Nelson?”

The wine might not pack a huge punch, but that sneaky after-effect is real.

They’d barely even started on the food and were already tossing back shots.

Annabelle couldn’t help but wonder if Micah was planning to get Sophie buzzed before she’d even tasted anything.

Micah realized he might’ve been a bit too eager with the toasts. He gave a sheepish grin, tapped his hand lightly, and set his glass down.

He said, “Sorry about that. I’ve been hitting up dinner parties with a bunch of rowdy business types lately-they all love to drink.

“Guess I started pushing drinks out of habit. Hope you’ll forgive me.”

Sophia shook her head with a smile. “It’s fine, Mr. Nelson. You’re just keeping it real-we don’t mind one bit.”

“Let’s dig in and chat,” Micah said.

Annabelle looked at Micah, then at Sophia, smiling, “Hey, we’re basically peers here-no need to be formal, just talk about whatever pops into your head.”

Micah was a bit older than Sophia and Annabelle, but at least they always found plenty to talk about.
