The members of Flame Speed Racing all looked at Noelle with worry written across their faces.
"Noelle, Hazel has already been arrested. What she did this time was way too much. There's no way she's getting out of it."
Jayden opened his mouth, wanting to comfort Noelle, but he couldn't find the right words to say.
Jenna looked stricken. "Noelle, don't be too hard on yourself. Nicola was a good woman."
Noelle shook her head, her gaze cold. "Nicola died because of me."
If Nicola hadn't stepped in for her, she might still be alive.
Now, every time Noelle closed her eyes, all she saw was Nicola smiling at her, thanking her, saying it was because of her guidance that she'd improved so fast.
She flashed a bitter smile.
Nicola had been too naive. And she hadn't been without selfish motives. She'd asked Nicola to help her strike back, and in the end, Nicola had paid the price for it.
It was her fault. She hadn't done enough.
"Noelle…" Alexis trailed off, not knowing what to say. None of them knew how to help her through this.
Noelle gave them a faint smile. "Don't worry, I'll be fine. But I need to take some time off and head into town. You guys keep training."
She turned to leave.
Alexis quickly grabbed her arm, panic flashing across her face. "Noelle, where are you going? Let me come with you!"
She was afraid Noelle might do something reckless.
Noelle turned and gently patted her hair. "Focus on leading the team. Don't think that doing well in the prelims means you can slack off."
Alexis' eyes burned with tears.
Noelle slipped out of her grasp and walked away. No one knew where she was headed.
She reached the parking lot, opened the door of her red Divine, and had just slid into the driver's seat when someone climbed into the passenger side.
She turned and was surprised to find Hunter sitting there. She had no idea when he'd arrived at the intensive training camp, let alone how he'd known she was coming to get her car.
"What are you doing here?" Her voice sounded flat, devoid of emotion.
Hunter's reply was just as cool. "I hacked Hazel's phone and found traces of another hacker. I figured it was you, so I came to check on you."
She went silent. After all these years, the one who understood her best was still Hunter.
Her eyes dimmed. "Nicola's already been laid to rest. But I'm going to make sure she gets justice. I can't just let this go."
Hunter's sharp gaze settled on her. "I have no opinion on that."
Hunter wanted to tell her there was no need for her to be so formal with him, not after everything, but he knew she wasn't in the mood, so he let it go.
She glanced at the rearview mirror. "Once I'm off the mountain, I'll need a car. I'm going to disguise myself. If the coaches ask where I am, I'll say I'm with you."
She'd always been careful. If something was too risky, she wouldn't do it.
Hunter didn't say much and only reminded her, "Be careful."
She gave a quiet "mm" in response. Once she got off the mountain, she changed clothes and slipped into her disguise.
Her makeup skills were already impressive, enough to completely alter her appearance. Yet her true mastery lay in the long-lost Chameleon Technique, a secret no one else knew.
The Chameleon Technique was even more powerful than ordinary makeup, because it used synthetic skin that wouldn't budge or change, no matter how much she sweated or got wet. Even after using it for months, her real skin remained completely unaffected.
In the entirety of Stonegate, she was probably the only one who knew the Chameleon Technique.
After she left, Hunter gave an order to Juned. "Get people in Brindley to keep an eye on her. Make sure no one lays a finger on her."
Juned obeyed immediately, though his stomach churned with nerves.
Hunter rarely lost his cool.
If something happened to Noelle, the entirety of Brindley would likely pay the price.
