Too Good for You The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 152

Clifford had taken Zayne to several hospitals, but the results were disappointing. Zayne's eyes could no longer be fully cured.

If he wanted to prevent Zayne from going blind, the only option was weekly injections of imported medication to slow the deterioration of his vision. Each dose would cost 90 thousand dollars.

Thunderscape Group had only just regained its footing. Such a huge, ongoing expense was more than Clifford could handle.

He called Lola and asked, "Why did you lie to me?"

On the other end, Lola sounded aggrieved. "Clifford, I didn't lie. When Zayne first complained about his eyes, I did take him to see doctors. Maybe his symptoms simply weren't obvious at the time, so the doctors didn't catch the problem."

Clifford froze, momentarily stunned.

Lola continued, "Clifford, Zayne's vision has already dropped to 20/40. That's almost like being blind. He can barely make out people anymore."

She sighed. "Even if he keeps getting the injections, he'll never get back to normal. These injections would be a lifelong treatment, requiring decades of costly medicine. Do you really think it's worth it?"

Clifford's expression shifted.

Lola added logically, "Zayne's eyes are failing, which means he can't be the heir. In the future, we can hire a caregiver to take care of him, which won't cost much. This doesn't have to stop us. We are still young, and if we want more children, we can have them gradually over time. Why should we waste time and resources on Zayne?"

Her words cut straight to Clifford's heart, yet he hesitated. No matter what, Zayne was his firstborn. As a father, he couldn't simply stand by and watch his child go blind.

"I'll think about it," Clifford said, ending the call.

He walked to Zayne's room and saw him sitting on the floor, staring blankly ahead.

Clifford felt a sharp ache in his chest.

Back when Noelle was with them, Zayne had been lively and healthy. Now that Noelle was gone, Zayne's eyesight was failing.

Zayne looked up, realizing Clifford was there. Clifford knelt beside him, stroking his hair with a face full of guilt. "Zayne, if anyone is to blame, it's your mother for not taking care of you."

He choked on his words. "If she had stayed home and been a proper full-time mother, none of this would have happened. It is all her fault. She abandoned you and showed how irresponsible she is."

Tears welled in Zayne's eyes. "Daddy, please don't abandon me. Please don't leave me alone."
