Too Good for You The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 168

Clifford set a plate of pasta in front of Zayne. "Try this, Zayne. Tell me if my pasta tastes good."

Zayne reached out blindly for the fork. When Clifford noticed, he quickly placed it in Zayne's hand, who gave him a sweet smile and clumsily stirred the pasta with the fork.

Clifford had never been good at cooking. The pasta looked awful, the meatballs were half-burnt, but Zayne ate happily. Not minding the heat, he took the first bite and smiled at Clifford. "Your cooking's really good, Dad."

Then, one mouthful followed after another. But halfway through, his tears began dripping onto the plate.

Clifford was startled. "What's wrong, Zayne? Is it too hot? Shall I blow on it for you before you eat?"

Zayne shook his head and was too choked up to eat another bite. Sobbing, he cried out, "Dad, I really want to eat Mom's cooking. She used to make me something different every day, and I miss her so much…"

Regret hit him hard. He remembered the day Noelle had left the house under the blazing sun just to buy chicken wings, all because he'd said he wanted them.

After she'd made the barbecue chicken wings, he hadn't eaten a single bite and went out with Clifford and Lola for Willdenese food instead.

The Willdenese food had tasted great, but now, all he wanted was Noelle's cooking. The more he thought about it, the harder he cried.

Clifford held him tightly with tears streaming down his own face as well. He wondered if he begged Noelle to come back now, would she?

Noelle had promised Bonnie to take her to the amusement park, so she arrived to pick up the latter early in the morning. She'd packed fruits and homemade lunches, grabbing breakfast on the way.

Bonnie was dressed in a pretty frilly dress in the same color scheme as Noelle's outfit, which made it seem like they were in matching mother-daughter wear. Hunter was casually dressed in sportswear and a baseball cap, looking very low-key.

"Mommy!" Bonnie's voice was cheerful and soft. She ran up to wrap her arms around Noelle's leg before being scooped up in her arms.

Planting kiss after kiss on Noelle's face, Bonnie chirped. "You kept your promise, Mommy! You're the best, and I love you the most!"

"Of course, I keep my promises to you." Noelle's heart was melted by her soft, adorable manner. She'd come to calmly accept Bonnie calling her "Mommy."

The pitiful Bonnie had never known a mother's love, and a little girl like her was naturally endearing. That was why Noelle was willing to be Bonnie's mom, but of course, it had nothing to do with Hunter.

Noelle carried her to the car, and they returned to Hunter's luxurious place in Brindley.

After they arrived, Hunter carried Bonnie upstairs to sleep, but she immediately woke up and turned to look at Noelle nervously. "Mommy, you won't be gone when I wake up, will you?"

She'd had so much fun today.

Noelle smiled. "Of course not. I'll be right here waiting for you to wake up and make you delicious food. You've been wanting to try my cake, haven't you?"

Relieved, Bonnie dropped her head to one side and immediately drifted off.

After Hunter put her to bed, he came over to Noelle and looked somewhat apologetic. "You don't have to push yourself so hard."

Spending the day playing with Bonnie was hard work, and now that she was baking another cake, wouldn't she be utterly exhausted?

Noelle shook her head and solemnly said, "I just feel that Bonnie's probably never tasted a mom's cooking, so she might've been longing for it."
