In the end, Liliana didn't sleep in the nursery.
Mainly because there wasn't a suitable bed.
She couldn't exactly sleep in the crib, could she?
That wouldn't be right.
The dimensions were all wrong.
Liliana had a restless night.
With her pregnant belly, she couldn't toss and turn like she used to, and the feeling of being stuck in one position was frustratingly uncomfortable.
Mrs. Hart didn't get much sleep either, waking up the next morning with a yawn.
As Gabriel passed by the bedroom early in the morning, he caught sight of the mother and daughter, both sporting large, dark circles under their eyes. He paused. "Cosplaying as pandas? Is it fun?" he asked coldly.
Mrs. Hart was speechless.
So was Liliana.
Gabriel might seem cold, but his tongue was just as sharp.
He strolled in, hands in his pockets, and asked casually.
"What's wrong, did you both have insomnia? Neither of you could sleep?"
Mrs. Hart sighed. "It was Liliana who couldn't sleep."
At that, Gabriel's cool gaze slowly shifted to the guilty party sitting sheepishly on the bed.
A slight smile touched his lips. "Liliana, why couldn't you sleep? Come on, tell me."
Liliana instantly tensed up.
Her entire life, the phrase she feared most from Gabriel was—
"Come on, tell me."
Most of the time, Gabriel doted on her. Even if she caused a disaster of epic proportions, he would be there to back her up.
But on the rare occasions when she truly angered him, he would smile and say, "Come on, tell me," which was far more terrifying than any scowl.
If Liliana dared to lie at that moment, he would become genuinely furious and ignore her until she finally apologized.
The last time Gabriel had been angry with her was when her love-addled brain had taken over, and she'd stubbornly thrown herself at Linton, much to his disapproval.
Liliana gave a nervous laugh and rubbed her nose, wondering what she had done to provoke him this time.
