Trapped in the boss's embrace (by Katrina A) novel Chapter 140

Chapter 140 Do You Need to Lie Down?

Beatrice was taken completely off guard.

She felt herself being tossed to the side and instinctively reached for something to hold on to.

Damian caught her around the waist, pulling her not just sideways but straight into his embrace.

In a frantic attempt to brace herself against the seat, her hand inadvertently landed on his thigh instead, with her chest pressing against him.

Panic flooded Beatrice as she gripped the fabric at his side, her breath hitched in her throat.

His warm breath surrounded her like mountain mist, making everything feel surreal.

The softness pressing against his chest felt like it was on fire.

Inside, Beatrice was freaking out like she was on fire, but on the outside, she was frozen stiff.

When she realized her hand was in a not-so-great spot, her face went even stiffer, and she slowly pulled her fingers back.

Damian looked down at her, his eyes piercing yet wordless, as if to say, "What's the deal? Are you trying to make a move on me in broad daylight? You're getting ballsy."

Beatrice felt an intense urge to bolt out of the car.

She tried to regain her composure, pulling her chest away from him, but Damian tightened his hold on her waist, pulling her right back into the steamy closeness. "You said you don't get carsick, but you're as pale as a ghost. Do you need to lie down for a bit?"

"I'm fine now, seriously," she insisted, finally managing to sit up straight.

She placed her palms flat on her thighs, trying to look cool as a cucumber, but the blush creeping up her cheeks gave her away.

The others in the car seemed to be on the same wavelength.

Let's keep it zipped; we don't wanna cramp their style.

Violet was itching to have a pair of binoculars to get a better look at the situation.

Killian played it cool, pretending he didn't notice a thing.

Ethan was beaming from ear to ear like a giddy schoolkid.

Theodore, on the other hand, kept a straight face and didn't join in the merriment.

In the meantime, Beatrice gave Violet a death glare and then fixed Ethan with a menacing look, as if to warn, "You two are gonna pay for this!"

Forty minutes later, they pulled up at a charming, old-fashioned farm at the base of the mountains.

Logan, the farm owner whom Damian had met the previous day, was there to greet them. Beatrice recognized him as Noah's uncle.

"Come on in," Logan said.

Unlike the laid-back vibe in his backyard the day before, Logan seemed a bit more serious today.

Damian told Killian and Ethan to hang outside, and Violet told her brother not to go in.

Damian and Logan led the way inside, with Beatrice and Violet trailing behind.

They climbed up to the third floor, where Logan opened a door in the hallway.

To Beatrice's shock, there was another person in the room—a woman in her late fifties. Her hair was white, and her face was haggard. She wore a simple white cotton shirt, and despite the harsh marks of time, one could still tell she had been a stunner in her prime. Her sunken eyes were a clear sign of the hardships she'd endured.

"You are..." Violet asked, completely puzzled.

Her investigation had led her to believe this woman had kicked the bucket ages ago, and the woman in front of her looked at least twenty years older than the pictures she'd seen.

Logan said, "This is my sister, Noah's mom."

Olivia Fleming looked up and managed a weak smile. "Hi, everyone."

Beatrice's heart skipped a beat.

Noah's mom? Wasn't she supposed to have bought it in that gas explosion?
