Trapped in the boss's embrace (by Katrina A) novel Chapter 143

Chapter 143 Where's Your Boobs

No wonder Autumn had been buttering her up these days.

She'd been singing Madeline's praises to Desmond, showering her with gifts, and even tagging along while Madeline picked out her wedding dress and invitation designs.

Madeline thought she'd finally seen the light, but it turned out Autumn was just trying to pump her for info.

A few days back, they'd had a boozy night in.

Madeline had gotten plastered. She couldn't recall the exact conversation, but she knew she'd spilled the beans on a whole lot.

Autumn had managed to wrangle details about Noah from her and then joined forces with Beatrice.

They'd deliberately lured Desmond to Solhaven, not only to expose her phony pregnancy but also to unearth her past as a murderer.

"Damn it! That scheming old hag! Those bitches! I won't let them get away with this!" Madeline shrieked hysterically.

Quentin didn't have time to decipher her rantings.

He took a moment to compose himself. "Look, there's only one way out now. You gotta turn yourself in and come clean."

"You were 16 when it happened. Yeah, you're liable for criminal charges, but being a minor could work to your advantage. They'll go easy on you. First, we gotta keep you alive, and then I'll work something out!"

"I'm not turning myself in! I'm not going to jail! You go find a way out for me right now! I don't care how!" Madeline roared, hurling a pillow at him.

Seeing his sister lose her marbles, Quentin was at his wit's end. "If you don't listen to me, I'm out of options. I really can't handle this anymore..."

He spun on his heel and walked out.

Jane chased after him, sobbing, "Quentin, she's your own sister. You can't just wash your hands off her..."

After they left, it wasn't long before the faint wail of police sirens reached the hospital room.

Madeline was frantically dialing Desmond's number, but he wasn't picking up.

When she heard those sirens, panic truly set in.

She scrambled out of bed, clutching her shoulder wound, and bolted for the door, desperate to make a run for it.

But as soon as Madeline burst out, a police officer on guard blocked her path.

"Where are you going, Ms. Fairfax?"

"Get out of my way!" Madeline tried to shove him.

The officer easily subdued her, pushed her back into the room, and slammed the door shut.

Madeline was shaking like a leaf.

In a moment of sheer desperation, remembering the conversation between her mother and brother, she quickly fired off a message to Fiona Clarke: [Aunt Fiona, please save me! I'll do anything for you! I'll do whatever Quentin won't!]

Just as she hit send, the door flew open.

Quentin and Jane rushed back from the lounge.

It was too late to turn herself in now.

Before they could say a word, several police officers entered the room.

"Ms. Fairfax, you're involved in a murder case that happened five years ago. This is an arrest warrant," the lead detective said sternly, shoving a piece of paper in front of her.

As Madeline looked at Quentin, crying for help, a pair of cold handcuffs snapped shut around her wrists.

Jane was taken away, too.

She'd helped bury the body and bribed the police to destroy the evidence.

The so-called reliable officer Oliver Ashworth she'd talked about was also arrested.

Down at the police station, Olivia finally came face-to-face with the monster who'd taken her son's life.

Through the glass of the interrogation room, Olivia stared daggers at Madeline, her hatred burning like wildfire. She was itching to bust in there and wring that woman's neck with her bare hands.

If it weren't for this evil bitch, her son would still be breathing, and she'd still be able to see his face and feel his touch. Now, all she could do was pray to catch a fleeting glimpse of him in her dreams.

She hated Madeline's guts.

Inside the interrogation room, Madeline was staring down a mountain of solid evidence, but she still tried to wriggle out of it like a slippery eel.

One minute she was playing the poor, innocent victim, and the next she was claiming to be off her rocker.

Too bad she didn't have any pills on her; otherwise, she might've been able to put on a convincing act of having a seizure.

This time, no one was there to help her cover up the evidence. The power her family once wielded was now overshadowed by another force.

The boys who had participated in the bullying that led to the crime were also arrested.

Faced with irrefutable evidence, they offered up the truth.

Madeline had drugged Noah with a hallucinogenic substance before tying him to her bed. After that, Noah was dead.

The autopsy revealed he had been strangled.

Nico, now in the hospital, finally recounted the events of that day in full detail.

The two female officers taking notes were horrified.

It had started as an ordinary day but had turned into a living hell for those two kids.

All accounts from that day indicated that Noah was subjected to drugging and suffocation, making Madeline the only possible murderer.

Jane's bodyguard finally cracked as well, confessing under the pressure.
