Helene sat down at Noah’s bedside and spotted a thermos on the table. She picked it up, turning it in her hands. It wasn’t the kind the Grayson family usually used, which made her frown. She waved a bodyguard over.

“Who brought this soup in?” she asked.

“It was Ms. Monroe,” the bodyguard answered.

Helene’s voice shot up, sharper than she meant. “Madeline?” The anger in her eyes made both bodyguards flinch.

Unbelievable. Madeline had tried to seduce Julian last night, and now she was here playing the caring friend for Noah. And she still claimed she didn’t have any ulterior motives.

Helene grabbed the thermos, ready to throw it away, but as she lifted her arm, she paused. Her eyes narrowed with a new thought.

If Madeline had gone through all this trouble, why not use it to her own advantage? Helene lowered her hand and looked straight at the bodyguards. “You didn’t see Madeline today, and this soup wasn’t from her. Understand?”

The bodyguards exchanged a confused look. “Sorry?”

“You know Julian doesn’t like strangers coming near Noah. If he finds out you let someone else bring food in, do you really want to be the one explaining that to him?” Helene’s voice was low but firm.

They hesitated, glancing at each other.

“It’s fine, I’ll cover for you this time. Just don’t let it happen again.” Helene smiled tightly.

Relieved, the bodyguards nodded quickly. “Thank you, Ms. Fortner.”

“You can go,” she said, waving them off. As they left, she turned back to Noah, her expression hardening.
