Julian watched as the woman dove into the water without a second thought. He clicked his tongue, scowling. “Is she out of her mind?” The ocean was freezing. How could she just jumped in like that? Was that chatty woman really worth risking her life for?
Miles glanced at him and hesitated. Wasn’t it Julian who set this up in the first place? He kept quiet, but the question lingered in his mind.
Time ticked by. Madeline hadn’t come back up. Julian’s scowl deepened. Miles, standing to the side, finally spoke up. “Boss, should I send someone to get her?”
Julian’s eyes never left the restless water. There was no trace of her. He let out a cold laugh, flicked his cigarette away, and said, “She did it herself. If she drowns, that’s her problem.” He paused, then added, “Don’t worry about it.”
Miles almost rolled his eyes. Who was he kidding? Julian was staring holes into the water. Who was really worried here?
A few more minutes dragged by. Julian started pacing, restless. “How long has it been?”
“Almost eight minutes, Boss.”
Julian’s frown only got darker. Was she really planning to die out there?
“Are you sure we shouldn’t send someone in for her?” Miles tried again. “If we wait any longer, we might be fishing out a corpse.”
Julian’s face was stone cold, his eyes impossible to read. He muttered something under his breath, then shrugged off his jacket and jumped right into the sea.
“Boss?” Miles ran to the railing, staring in shock. Julian had actually gone in after her. So much for not caring. Who was he trying to fool with that “don’t worry about it”? Miles made a face. Julian has changed so much.
He was about to call the bodyguards over when he heard coughing from the back of the boat. Miles’s head whipped around and he hurried over. He found Madeline, drenched from head to toe, somehow already back onboard. Brenda was with her, shivering but safe.
Madeline’s gaze was icy as she looked at him.
