Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 133

Julian’s icy gaze landed on Brenda for just a second before he gave Miles a look. Miles got the message right away and stepped forward, gently but firmly pulling Brenda away. “Ms. Mullins, you’re free to go. Let me walk you out.”

Brenda dug in her heels, refusing to budge. “I’m not leaving. If I go, I’m taking Madeline with me. What are you planning to do to her?”

She clung to Madeline’s arm like her life depended on it. Miles glanced at Julian, who was clearly running out of patience, and tried to reassure her. “Don’t worry. Mr. Grayson isn’t going to do anything to his wife. But if you don’t leave now, you might end up swimming back.”

That made Brenda freeze. She shot a glance at the inky black waves outside, the kind that looked like they could swallow someone whole. The memory of the freezing water made her shiver uncontrollably.

Madeline gave her a soft look. “You should go, Brenda. I’ll be fine. You don’t have to worry about me.”

“Are you sure you’ll be okay by yourself?” Brenda asked, eyeing Julian with obvious distrust.

“I’m sure. Trust me,” Madeline said gently.

Julian barely noticed the sting of the cold sea breeze anymore. He saw Madeline shivering and decided he’d had enough of their back and forth. Without another word, he grabbed Madeline and led her into a room inside the cabin.

“What do you want from me? Why are you bringing me here?” Madeline demanded as Julian kicked the door shut behind them, leaving her with nowhere to run.

She closed her eyes and took a steadying breath. “Julian, seriously. Is this supposed to mean something?”

He didn’t answer. Instead, he went to the closet, pulled out a crisp white shirt, and tossed it to her.

Madeline caught it, looking puzzled. “What’s this for?”

“Go take a shower and change. I don’t want you messing up my boat.”

Madeline just stared at him for a second, then tossed the shirt aside. Her voice was ice cold. “Let me off this boat and I won’t mess anything up.”

Julian dragged an armchair in front of the door, blocking her exit, and sat down. He looked relaxed, almost lazy, but his eyes never left her. When he lifted an eyebrow, Madeline felt her pulse jump.

He spoke. “Are you trying to negotiate with me?”
