“Is it really that hard to find out?”
Honestly, it wasn’t. In the Capital, if he wanted to know something, all he had to do was make a call. Every detail about her would end up right in front of him. There was no way to hide from someone like him.
Madeline kept quiet, the silence settling between them. It didn’t last long. The Maybach glided to a smooth stop outside her office building.
She didn’t hesitate. With a soft thank you, she opened the door and stepped out. Julian didn’t try to stop her. He just rolled the window down, watching as she walked away and disappeared into the building.
The car hadn’t even been parked for five minutes, but it already attracted attention. People paused on the sidewalk, sneaking glances at the man inside. His sharp profile had a way of making people stare.
“Wait, isn’t that Julian… Mr. Grayson? I was just wondering who the big shot was, and it’s actually him. Why is he here?”
“I saw a lady get out of his car. Is he dropping off his girlfriend at work?”
“That can’t be right. Mr. Grayson’s girlfriend is Ms. Fortner. She wouldn’t be working in a place like this.”
Julian didn’t stick around. He pulled away almost as soon as Madeline went inside.
At the Fortner Group office, Helene stared at a photo on her phone, her jaw clenched in frustration. “Julian dropped some woman off at Scent Trace?”
Raine nodded, looking a bit wary. “Yeah. A friend happened to walk by and snapped this. They didn’t catch the girl’s face, though. Helene, don’t get upset. Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding.”
Helene’s eyes narrowed. “Why is it always Scent Trace? They’ve got a mysterious owner, a secretive perfumer, and now another woman, all tied to that company. Why does everything seem to lead back to them?”
Raine felt the same confusion. It was like Scent Trace kept popping up no matter where they looked.
“Could just be a coincidence,” Raine tried to reassure her, though she didn’t sound convinced.
Helene’s frown deepened. “I haven’t dealt with Madeline yet, and now there’s someone new around Julian. Find out who she is. I want to know which shameless woman thinks she can get close to him.”
