Thud.
Madeline grabbed Helene by the hair and slammed her head into the side of their multi-million-dollar car.
“You’re right. Why didn’t you go all the way? If you couldn’t kill me, you should’ve known there would be consequences. Helene, the old Madeline is gone. You destroyed her. Now it’s my turn to destroy you.”
Helene was dazed, her whole body aching. She thought it was over, but then pain ripped through her leg.
She screamed, the sound raw and desperate.
Madeline had her heel pressed onto Helene’s injured leg, grinding down hard. She looked down at her coldly. “Didn’t I warn you not to mess with me? Every time you cross the line, I’ll make you pay. Why can’t you ever listen?”
As she spoke, Madeline caught a movement in the corner of her eye and sidestepped.
Raine was rushing at her with a rock in hand, but she lost her grip and the stone went flying, smacking Helene right in the nose.
Helene screamed again, pain exploding across her face as warm blood started to stream down.
Raine covered her mouth, horrified. She ran over, begging, “Helene, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to, I swear!”
Helene, dazed and furious, shoved Raine away. “Useless. Get away from me!”
Madeline gave a cold, amused smile. She picked up her purse, pulled out her checkbook, scribbled out a check for two million, and tossed it at their feet. “Two million for your medical bills. That should cover it, right?”
Helene ripped the check to pieces. “Madeline, you think you can humiliate me with this? I’m calling the cops. I’ll have you arrested!”
Madeline’s lips curled. “Sure. Go ahead.”
She pointed up at the security camera. “There’s a camera right there. Everyone can see who started this.”
