Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 184

Helene’s face went pale in an instant. “No, Julian, that’s not what happened. I only said those things because I was upset.”

Julian’s voice was ice cold. “And what exactly did she do to upset you? Was it just standing on the side of the road? Or was it not standing still so you could run her over?”

“It wasn’t me trying to hit her,” Helene said, her voice trembling as she tried to sound sincere. “Raine just lost control of the steering wheel for a second. That’s why we almost hit Ms. Monroe. We felt really awful about it.”

Lost control. Almost. Regret.

“Is that so? Funny, I didn’t see any of that,” Julian replied, his eyes sharp and unfeeling. He tossed the tablet to Miles without looking away.

Anyone could see what the car was trying to do. When Helene and Raine got out, disappointment was written all over their faces. If they could have, they would have said, “Too bad we missed her.”

Helene clenched her fists so tight her nails nearly broke the skin. With Julian staring her down, there was nowhere to hide.

Courtney had watched the surveillance footage, too. In her mind, her daughter had done nothing wrong. No, it was Madeline who was out of line, acting all high and mighty.

“Julian, Helene wasn’t exactly wrong, and she wasn’t even the one driving. Madeline just started throwing punches. How could she hit my daughter?”

Seeing her daughter attacked made Courtney furious. If Madeline didn’t have someone backing her, she would have stepped in herself.

“Julian, I want an explanation today. This can’t just be swept under the rug.”

Julian narrowed his eyes, cold enough to make the room feel like winter. “What kind of explanation do you want?”

“Whatever Madeline did to Helene, she should pay back double.”

Julian lifted his gaze, looking over at Helene and her family. He seemed to think about it for a moment, then said quietly, “Alright.”

Madeline’s brows drew together, but her face barely changed. She wasn’t surprised Julian would stand with Helene.

“Let’s settle every score, one after another,” Julian said, his voice flat and distant.

Helene took a deep breath and tried to calm her nerves. She threw a look at Madeline that practically screamed victory.
